It can't be Cronkite. Do you remember when he did the voices when the space ship was ready to take off during the Beach House on the Moon concerts?

Re: Some more silly annoying questions
I don't know why, but I keep thinking that there is a recording somewhere in my collection where Jimmy talks about who did the gypsy poem. At this particular concert he is doing the poem himself and mentions the original person.
Of course I have no idea which of my tapes this might be....

Re: Some more silly annoying questions
My guess is Vince Melamed, this is going by the liner notes from Floridays which read:
The parts of Jimmy Buffett and his manager on “You’ll Never Work In Dis Bidness Again” played by Vince Melamed.
What sent me on that quest was wondering who did the spoken word intro to "You'll Never Work In Dis Bidness Again" from Feeding Frenzy. Of course it could be somebody completely different on "Gypsies In the Palace" but my money's currently on Vince.

I just emailed Vince and Josh, who worked with Jimmy back then and pleaded with them to let me know. Time will tell.

100% positive its James Mason.
Also, I've always had the same question about JB's accent but I disagree on the timeframe in the original post. To me the change happened in between "Havana Daydreamin" and "Changes in Latitudes...". 1976-1977.
go back and listen to some of those songs back to back. the change is amazing.

So listening to the RM broadcast of the Aus show. And Jimmy actually said "he couldn't do Leonard justice." I am guessing it is Leonard Nimoy.Snowparrot wrote:I think it's Leonard Nimoy...

No ...keep guessing.
In Sydney, Jimmy was referring to Leonard Cohen .. (and definitely not in the context of this thread).

Re: Some more silly annoying questions
Not to change the subject of who does the poem on GIP, it's been fun to read everyone's input but I do have another question:
On one of the BN pages it states that the most people ever online at the same time was on Sept. 20, 2007 @ 9:30pm. What was happening then? And do you think that the recent fall from stage event and BN aftermath will replace the Sept. 20th date? I hope this is an okay forum in which to post this question. Thanks in advance.

Re: Some more silly annoying questions
I don't think his accent has changed that much. Maybe the quality of the mics/recording equipment has. I can listen to some of his old songs and picture today's Jimmy singing them.

Re: Some more silly annoying questions
I can hear it, although some of it may be that his voice now is somewhat smoother and deeper. Seems more high pitched in the older recordings. Though THAT part may well have come from voice training. I took voice lessons for a bit and the person I went to actually told me my speaking voice is too low and strains my voice more than it should. This was a person who helped me realize it was more comfortable for me to sing in the soprano range than alto. Still haven't figured out how to talk differently though -

Just heard from Jackson Quigley Vince Melamed is the answer.
He confirmed it with Josh Leo
