Some more silly annoying questions

In my ongoing quest to get caught up on 30+ years of Jimmy's career, the following questions have popped in to my head:

1. Which came first - Jolly Mon the song or Jolly Mon the book?

2. Who recites the opening poem on the recorded version of Gypsies in the Palace and frequently at concerts?

3. What does "WTC" stand for? See the pin on Jimmy's guitar strap in the picture below.

4. What happened between 1988 and 1990. Sometime in there Jimmy lost his strong southern twang and started sounding the way he does today. Elocution lesson? Singing lessons? No more drugs? Got his teeth fixed and lost the overbite? The changes are subtle but they are definitely there.

I obviously have too much time on my hands.

1. Jolly Mon Sing, the song, came first, in 1985.

2. Dunno!

3. Gonna guess it's "World Trade Center" as in 9/11. :(

4. Not a clue. :P

Now I am REEEEALLY curious about who narrates the poem at the beginning of "Gypsies". I've always wondered, actually.

#4. Could that be when he bought his house in the Hamptons and started living up north for parts of the year?

I would agree with that!
And with the World Trade Center answer, #3.
I haven't heard any voice but Jimmy's on that poem... maybe I haven't been listening correctly?

Here's the voice that was on the original recording and that he uses frequently in concerts.

Listen to the Gypsies version on this set list. It almost sounds like Vincent Price, sort of.

The only people listed as background vocals are JB, Glen Frey, and Timothy B Schmidt.

I think it's Vincent Price.

I also thought Roy Orbison did background vocals on the album. :-?

#4 Jimmy did admit to taking singing lessons around that time. He was concerned that his voice would not last. And I do like the southern twang better! [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

The spoken intro to "Gypsies In the Palace" wouldn't be what I would consider "background vocals", those would be the folks providing backup and harmony vocals during the course of the song itself.

Jimmy talks about telling Zachary Richard about leaving NOLA before the poem is read, could it be Zachary Richard doing it?

Nope, not Zachary Richard.
I do realize I have heard it before, now I've heard it again. Some actor/TV person.... naggingly familiar....

Loved the Golden Voice guy, SurpPirate: hope he finds some good jobs soon.

Sounds really familiar to me too. Possibly Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, The Next Generation)???

He was featured on HLN this a.m., so I don't think he'll be long without a job.

I heard on The Today Show that they are going to fly him in for a spot tomorrow.
