Now we have ipods, gps, computer screens, etc... all distracting us while we are driving! I was just driving w/ someone the other day and he wouldn't use his cell phone when it rang, but he had NO PROBLEM staring at the big screen w/ GPS and typing in locations to find a Subway for lunch! We were all over the road!!!
Uh-huh... Entering data on a (GPS or other) screen is the same as texting. Just say no...
I do like McDonalds commercials out know where the parents won't let the son eat and drive!!
I like the morons who think they can read the newspaper while driving down the highway!!

I've seen women putting their makeup on and men shaving with electric razors while they drive. As much as I complained about the Long Island Railroad, at least I didn't have to deal with idiot drivers on my way to work for 13 years.

In my mind a car is a mode of transporting oneself from point A to point B and the
driver is there to
drive. It should not be used as your personal care room, your library, a movie theatre, or a telephone booth!!!!
I've seen people doing what Larry and StlBeachBum have said, as well as a 20-something kid reading a book, and another man giving himself a H@nd Job

Couldn't believe my eyes on that one, so I slowed the truck down and watched carefully

and my eyes had not deceived me.

Put me on the list of non-text enabled people. It is the stupidest way of communicating I have ever heard of. I'm holding a phone and I'm calling your phone but instead of talking I'll have you read my message.....???? Gotta be stupid as a teenage girl to think that is the way to go. Maybe that's why they aim text advertising at teenage girls.

What about our "law enforcement" officers driving around while accessing their laptops? I never thought that set a very good example. I've heard of some (not all) even getting out of tickets, everything from speeding to DWI. So, what happens when they crash into someone while on their computer? Will they still be considered above the law then?
I held off on getting a cellphone until I had to get one. Now, I'm one of those folks that doesn't leave home without it. Not because I necessarily want to use it while driving but if there is some sort of family emergency I want to be able to be contacted. Or, God forbid, if I find myself in an emergency situation, I want it on my person. Even though I never used it very much anyway I recently had texting disabled only to have it turned back on a few weeks later. Like it or not, that's how most of my younger relatives stay in touch with me.
I've always wondered why there was never this much fuss over the use of CB radios but evidently studies have been done that show they're not nearly as distracting to drivers. I'm guessing it's because you have to be much more interactive when operating your cellphone.

I couldn't agree more that you SHOULDN'T be doing anythng distracting (like texting) while you're driving. If local and state governments really want to enforce "no distraction" type legislation they best make it illegal to haul you kids around because NOTHING is more distracting that 2 or 3 kids arguing in the car

It may be safer texting on the I-9 and in the Holland Tunnel that dealing with kid crap in the car

"Don't make me come back there!"

My Dad once told me that my brother and I caused every accident he ever had!!!
I am glad they didn't have cell phones back in the day...It was all my Dad could do to keep the car on the road ... and all we had was an AM radio!!!

I do love the integrated blue tooth with my car.....I can answer (or decline) any call right on my steering wheel and the bluetooth speaker is in the roof of the car, so you can just talk while you drive. It's kind of weird at first, but I like it.
so they don't think you are just a crazy woman talking to yourself at stoplights?

Most of the time they think I'm the crazy woman putting on a car concert since that's the usual activity.
Somehow, I think once you're in your car it's "King's X".....I talk and/or sing to myself all of the time....
my car is my happy place, my best thinking happens in my car or on my bike!

It's an activity people do when there is something quick to say but don't really have anything to say.
Once upon a time it was called avoidance.
