Didn't see that coming. He's on The Late Show tonight, should be interesting.

Orioles Matt Weiters (C) and Nick Markakis (RF) both win 2011 Gold Glove Awards...... [smilie=coolup.gif]

Well deserved and a silver lining in an otherwise dismal season (again) for Baltimore fans.....

Verlander takes AL Cy in unanimous vote

DETROIT -- In the end, the only question about the American League Cy Young Award was Justin Verlander's margin of victory. And it was unanimous.

The result was inevitable once Verlander captured the league's pitching Triple Crown. Tuesday was the coronation, making Verlander the Tigers' first Cy Young winner since Guillermo Hernandez in 1984, and the first Tigers starting pitcher to win it since Denny McLain in 1969.

The Angels' Jered Weaver was second in the voting, followed by James Shields of the Rays and CC Sabathia of the Yankees.

Gibson, Maddon named top skippers in 2011

Both men were responsible for remarkable turnarounds in 2011 -- one on the drop of a dime in a one-month span, the other in stark contrast to the team's finish from a year previous.

Tampa Bay's Joe Maddon and Arizona's Kirk Gibson on Wednesday were named the American League and National League Manager of the Year, respectively, by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Astros sale to Crane, move to AL approved
Houston to shift and join state-rival Rangers in AL West in 2013

MILWAUKEE -- The sale of the Astros by Drayton McLane to a group headed by Houston businessman Jim Crane for $610 million was approved Thursday by Major League Baseball owners at their final quarterly joint meeting of the year.

The sale of the Astros will preface the move of that team from the National League Central Division to the American League West, effective as soon as the 2013 season. The Commissioner's Office and the MLB Players Association collaborated on that development during the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations.

Kershaw is the winner of NL Cy Young Award
Dodgers lefty wins 21, pitching Triple Crown in third full season

The first time Joe Torre saw Clayton Kershaw pitch, he compared him to Sandy Koufax. On Thursday, the talented young left-hander took his biggest step yet toward proving that comparison apt by winning the 2011 National League Cy Young Award.

The 23-year-old Texan received 27 of a possible 32 first-place votes and a points total of 207 in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Phillies teammates Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee were second and third, and the D-backs' Ian Kennedy finished fourth.

And in other news, Dale Sveum was made the manager of the Cubs... How this move is for a manager with big league experience is beyond me

(In other words, Theo dropped the ball big time if he thinks that a "hitting coach" is going to have more managing experience than a "minor league coach" in any league....)
