Winterizing Jimmy

Perhaps this topic has already been mentioned, so sorry if I didn't see it.

Anyway, I am just curious to hear what other parrotheads do once winter time hits, and summer goes away. All summer long, I play Jimmy in my car and IPOD constantly. I am a die hard parrothead and have been for 20 years.

Once winter time hits, I rarely listen. It just doesn't sound the same listening to Jimmy when it is snowing or freezing cold.

I guess you could say that at a certain point in the year, I "winterize" Jimmy!!! And break him out again in about April or so.

What do you do? Do you crank Jimmy Year Round? Or do you hibernate Jimmy altogether in the Winter?

Yep! Year round for me too...though I do tend to cut back on Jimmy time a little in the winter. Whenever Jimmy is on in the car I want to put the top down and that gets a little chilly in the winter.

I find myself listening to less and less Buffett the last few years, no matter what time of year it is. I just checked my iPod, I have more than 800 Buffett songs on it but I haven't listened to any of them lately. Between studio albums, live albums, bootlegs from the pre-Radio Margaritaville days and copies of concerts I was at, I have more than 150 Buffett CDs. Can't remember the last time I listened to any of them. In fact, except for the concerts I was at, and the live broadcasts on RM, I hardly listened to any Buffett music last year.

Funny, this sort of topic has been on my mind for weeks now. I feel guilty that I unfortunately have been listening to Jimmy a lot less this winter, and have been re-visiting what I call some of my favorite Winter-Weather bands/music. I listened to a lot of that during my college years in Vermont, so it always reminds me of that period of my life.

That being said, I have been really hoping JB releases something during the winter months to get me back into listening to him soon! Or, I have also been hoping RM plays a concert from the vault that has not been played before...

I agree with Larry, I listen to Jimmy less and less now. I still love him but I like the gems and therefore can't listen to RM. I have been listening to a lot of other trop rock artists and buying their stuff.

To answer the question though, I do winterize most of Buffett but now that I am heading down to the house in Key West for a week or two, I have to admit I have restocked the ipod.

During the Christmas season, I listen to Jimmy's Christmas Island cd. The rest of the winter, I listen to Radiomargaritaville on my Sirius in my car or on my Dish network, every once in a while.

I'm a big fan of Beachfront at work. (though it IS a little embarrasing when I am caught 'chair dancing' to Hot Hot Hot)
And I live in the Beach house on the river - in Key West, IOWA. (yep, it's a real place)
It's always summer time at my house - complete with flock of parrots and flamingos that live in my library.

My son is amazed when he encounters something NOT-Jimmy/trop rock on my iPod....

Winterizing Jimmy? I make sure to turn off the cutoff valve inside the house and drain the rest of the water. As for music, I listen to whatever the mood hits me that day. Maybe it's Jimmy, maybe it's something else.

During the Winter months I tend to listen to more reggae and Buffett because I'm not a Winter person and am longing for the first days of Spring.

I probably listen *a little* more in the summer because of outdoor bbqs and things like that, but pretty much I'd say I'm pretty consistent. It reminds me of summer in the winter and that's a good thing.

All year....I think I like him even more (if that's possible) in the winter, because I hate cold weather. If not for Buffett CD's and Radio Margaritaville I would be lost!

We listen to JB's concerts on Radio Margaritaville and play his CD's all year long. His music always makes us smile and feel good. We are not cold weather people. Don't think we could make it through the winter without his music. Love playing the Christmas Island CD for the holidays!! Also just bought the new Coral Reefer Christmas album and really really enoyed it!!

So yes, we listen happily to his music 24/7, 365 days a year!!
