We were with a great group and still had an awesome time. The traffic jam was because there were (HS)graduations being held at Rutgers at the same time we were there, simple common sense solution would have been to open the lots!!!! This is a scheduling problem that should have been foreseen and adjusted by either Rutgers or the SBC. The police came around once, at the beginning of the tailgate and told us to take down the EZ up or be ticketed. They were very nice and patient with us, considering they were being screamed at for doing their jobs. We didn't take down our EZ up and they never came back to ticket us! They didn't understand the rule either and suggested we write to Susquehanna Bank Center and complain. Not because it was their rule but because they have pull and the power to change things. As far as boycotting the Susq, I'm not gonna do that! The reason most of us are there in the first place is to see & hear Jimmy Buffett. The acoustics in that center are awesome! Why would I want to go to a stadium where you can't understand what is being said or sung??? It turned out to be a great day, if you could steer away from the pessimistic/ negative personalities. Always look on the bright side of life!!!! Sorry for the rant, I'm tired of the Police being chastised for doing their jobs. They were following orders from their superiors, who weren't there to see the dumbassity of their decisions. Camden city government is brainless which is why it's the murder capital of the country! They lay off half the police force and then tell the other half to enforce the no tent rule all the while real crime is happening all over the city. Pffffttttt, I pity the Camden Police force for having to work for such idiots! As far as the scheduling problem and the unfriendly parking lot attendants, these things happen in life. GET OVER IT!!!!! They have happened before, they'll happen again, it's life. It's all in the way YOU handle it. A lesson TropicAl taught me a few tailgates ago!

That is all.
My second and last comment on the concert/tailgate. I vented with good reason. We followed all the rules instructed by the Camden police : we put beverages in plastic cups the minute we were told to , we didn't even bother putting up E-Z ups because we saw police telling our neighbors to take theirs down. We didn't complain about only having to wait an hour to get in the lot.
My son made an honest mistake by carrying an open can and was put up against a squad car after apologizing for forgetting and politely asking if he should finish it or throw it away. It was the COPS ATTITUDE that could have ruined the day. .Luckily it didn't. He didn't get "nice" copy like you. He had "bad" cop.
That said again, in spite of the incident, we HAD AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TAILGATE. And I am sure we will be back in Camden next year.

Now, let me play devil's advocate: you said you were told by "nice" cop to take down your EZ-up and you blatantly and willingly ignored to do what the Camden Police told you to do, no matter how stupid a law it is. Let's say "bad" cop comes by later and hauls you and Tom against the squad car cause you have your canopy still up. He says he could fine or arrest you. Now, what's your attitude gonna be ? He's only doing his job, right?

Not picking on you. Just had to clarify my earlier post.

We made the best of what could have been a lousy day. My gripe is with the attitude that was shown to us by the police

As stated earlier, we had a great time once we got into the lots, shame that we got separated that is what really sucked. I talked to many in the other lot, and everyone said that Tom and Deb fed them and took care of them all day. Tom and Denby had some food and they were feeding people too. So all in all everyone once we got in to the lots were okay. Sucks about the 10 x 10's but that is the situation in Lot #11, so if you don't want to deal with that, go later. We did not have one issue with that in the front lot. I never saw a cop at all. I feel sorry for a few in our group, who had to leave and never tailgated at all or went to the concert, imagine sitting in that nightmare a going home or getting your truck towed home.... :(

Sorry, about what happened to your son Rumdrinks, that shouldn't happen and you have a right to complain about what happened to him.

We're gonna remedy this situation for next year, we are starting to work on it now...

I totally understand your rage! This really wasn't aimed at you, just bad post timing. You are right, we were defiant and took a chance on being hauled off to jail. But yes, if they locked us up they were just doing their job! Imagine showing up for work on a hot & humid day and having to wear a hot & humid uniform in that hot and humid weather and everyone you come in contact with screams at you for relaying a message from your superiors who are hidden away in a nice air-conditioned office. It would put me in a rotten mood and eventually I would lose it. Hell, I lost it on my own son. I'm not saying what she did was right, I'm just saying I feel their pain. We may have gotten away with the canopy because we told nice cop that we had 3 people with disabilities that could become problematic without the cover of a canopy. We handled the two officers with respect and I believe we were returned the favor. Please take these officers advice and write to Susquehanna Bank Center, Campbell's Field, Live Nation and the Mayor's office.

I thought most people treated the police with respect. I went out of my way to be nice to them. But there were plenty of rude cops. My friend was taking a bike surray in to the concert and a cop stop him for having a open container. He had backwash left. He spent the concert in the back of a police car cuz his id was in my car and my cell was dead. He sat in the police car and watched as under aged kids walked by drinking going in to the concert. Selective enforcement! And I don't see where the punishment fit the crime!!! I had a great time in the parking lot and at the concert. The rest sucked.

For us it was bad enough that if we don't have a bus we will pass on tailgating in Camden next year.

Why don't we let this thread die and use the new Camden/Philly 2012

I posted in there about the bus, we are putting together details right now, and have a preliminary meeting this weekend. After that, we will have cost, timing, location, etc., for everyone to look at.

The bus committee is MaryKay, Debbie, Denby and myself. Details to follow shortly.
