Down Under Blunder, now that's funny.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there.

Fill it up with good red wine...or Rose, as Jimmy said!!!

And TMZ you S*CK!! Paying to publish pictures both of the fall and his being wheeled away - I thought you couldn't sink any lower on the journalism scale but you outdid yourselves.
The way that TMZ covered this was morally reprehensible. This is journalism at its worst. This is an example of the media wanting to get the story first instead of wanting to get the story right. TMZ, you broke the first rule of journalism: Get the story right.

The local tv news website has the video of Jimmy falling off the stage. This is the picture that is displayed on the link:

G'day all, here's my first post so I may as well make it a good one. I have posted pic's in Fin Land 2011 from the show.
I was there the night Jimmy left the stage, after missing out on the first 2 shows at the Opera House (I lost internet connection whilst completing the checkout for show 2, maybe this was meant to happen) I wasn't going to miss out on the 3rd and final show at the , Hordern Pavillion.

So I flew up from N/E Victoria and had a fantastic Australia Day in Sydney (the highlight being the Mai Tai's at the Civic Hotel) and later made my way out to "the Hordern". Got in and bought a few T-Shirts (as well as the very last baseball cap), went straight to the bar but the Margarita slushie machine was playing up, whilst we queued for 20 minutes waiting for "our frozen concoction fix" Jimmy casually walked out on stage and says "Sorry it's been 20 years, I promise you won't have to wait as long for the next time!" He then introduced his support act. Here are the highlights of the show:

Later Jimmy came out draped in the Australian flag and told us he'd been staying in North Sydney, "today I sailed out to the heads, later I finally got to watch "The Castle" on DVD. This is the first time I've been on stage wearing a cape (Australian flag), when I get home this is going "straight to the poolroom!". He then played "Changes in lattitudes".

"When I started doing this all I wanted was to make enough money to buy a boat, then you buy another, since then they seem to get bigger & bigger". Coral Reefer Band then came out on stage, Tina Gullickson wore an Australian flag dress.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere - "Sung this song with Alan Jackson & won an award. Best 30 seconds I ever spent in the studio!". Allowed Mac McAnally to introduce song who talked about the "theory of drunkativity". Jimmy teases Mac for taking too long with the introduction.

Pencil thin mustache - Announces that they'll be playing at the New Orleans jazz festival this year. Sings "somebody stole my hair" instead of "I don't cut my hair".

Weather with you - Tells us he's always been a big fan of the Finn brothers.

One particular harbour - I discovered during this song that's possible to laugh and cry at the same time, the highlight of the night for me!

Gypsies in the palace - Jimmy explains that there was an opera next door at their Opera House gig, he wondered if anyone got their tickets mixed up expecting to see a bit of culture. He then recites like an old shakespearean sonnet: "In days of old, when knights were bold & journeyed from their castles, etc. etc."

Boomerang love - "I love this song and I'm so happy we can play it for you tonight, it's been awhile".

Margaritaville - Changes the "lost verse" to:
Old men in Speedo's
Looking like Guido's
Checkin' out the Aussie babes down by the shore

Southern cross - Like "One particular harbour", such a passionate & spiritual song.

A pirate looks at forty - Encore, "I promise we'll be back in 2012! You know Australia is an island full of pirates, this song goes out to all the pirates and for anyone turning 40".
Sings "just a few mates" instead of "just a few friends".

Lovely cruise - the stage fall (a.ka. Jimmy don't bounce like he used to).

Almost as soon as Jimmy fell I walked up to the railing to see if he was ok, I don't believe he ever lost consciousness but he certainly was groggy. He struck his head on the check board plate step in front of the rail fence, I thought the worst, it was one hell of a fall. Chuggy (the promoter) came out and asked us all to leave, because I was talking to the security guards at the time about what happened (they had their back to the incident and didn't see what happened) I was excluded from the crowd exiting. When the ambulance turned up around 11.30pm (30 minutes after the fall) I walked out to the back of the Pavillion with about 4 other people. There was an American man (with a 60's hippy pony tail look) who asked us all to leave, "Jimmy is a little embarrassed and we'd appreciate it if you could all move on". I said "no worries, we just wanted to make sure he's ok" the hippy fella told us to wait a minute. He came back and said "ok, we're going to bring Jimmy out to the ambulance and he'll give you wave, he's ok but he has a small cut & a big headache".
They brought Jimmy out on a gurney and true to his word he gave us a "just hang loose" wave. The few that were there all applauded and yelled "on ya Jimmy!".
As the ambulance left Chuggy walked over to us and jokingly said "ok now f_ck off and don't p_ss in anyone's front yard on your way home!"

As I walked the hours trip back to where I was staying in Pyrmont I just kept hoping that he'd be ok. Around midnight as I walked along Oxford Street an ambulance was treating a young fellow who had OD'd. I stuck my head in the back of the ambulance and said "excuse me boys, you wouldn't have an update on how Jimmy Buffett's going would you?". I won't repeat what they told me to do next.

We now know Jimmy is fine and so my memory of that night, and indeed the whole day, is a happy one, probably the best so far (don't tell the wife).

Come back soon Jimmy.

Welcome to BuffettNews, Dino69! :D

Great first post - and quite a first concert for you!

Just a warning, my first time experiencing OPH in concert was exactly the same as yours...and it sure has cost me a heckuva lot of money over the years since then!
A most mysterious calling harbour
So far, but yet, so near
Where I see the day
When my hair's full gray
and I finally...disappear. BUT NOT YET!!

Welcome to BN Dino69 :D

"The Castle" is one of my favourite movies, very witty and heart-warming. For weeks after I watched it, I could not stop repeating the two lines which stuck in my head ("That's going straight to the poolroom" and "Now, that's a head of hair") in my worst fake Aussie accent - just about drove my wife nuts!

Thanks for making me feel welcome all. I did upload a couple of pic's to the "Fin Land" folder from the show but they haven't turned up as yet. I'll wait a few days and try again if they don't appear.

One step too many (how come it's never two steps too many, always one? It's a bit like that "freak wave" the news people tell us about that cruises the ocean sneaking up on unsuspecting sailors and shore fishermen). That's Chuggy on the stage asking us to leave, you can see the check board plate step in front of the railing that Jimmy struck his head on, it could have been alot worse!
