Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett has been released from hospital in Sydney after falling off the stage and hitting his head during a concert.

.
"I thought he'd broken his neck," Sydney surgeon Gordian Fulde, who happened to be in the audience and treated Buffet at the scene, told 702 ABC Sydney.
"I heard the clunk of his head on a metal ledge, he has a deep gash on his scalp, which is all right now.
"But at first I thought - this guy is going to be a spinal injury."
Buffett fell face-first as he reached out to a fan in the front row.
He misjudged how close he was to the edge of the stage because there were lights in his eyes, Dr Fulde said.
Buffett was knocked unconscious and left bleeding from a deep head wound.
After being stabilised at the scene, he was rushed to hospital for head and neck scans.
The singer showed no sign of amnesia or cognitive impairment and Dr Fulde says the tests came back all clear.
"He just needs a bit of rest, and there's every expectation that he will be able to get to New Zealand to do his concert there," Dr Fulde said.
Earlier we were asking for volunteers to catch him.....I'm sure we can sit on him too???SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I'd hate to be the person in charge of telling Jimmy Buffett he has to sit still.....![]()

Okay, THAT'S scary to read, because that's a trauma professional, not one of us laymen......looking4OPH wrote:So, is this that director of emergency? How lucky that the ER department head of that hospital was in the first few rows, rushes up to help Jimmy, and rides in the ambulance to the hospital with him.

I left that bit out - as I thought it best to just wait till he got released from hospital and thought it would cause more worry to people. I have seen this doctor on TV and trust what he says, so knew he was ok - and yes, he is the director of the emergency there and is a very high profile doctor.springparrot wrote:wJsSchoolGirlHeart wrote:Okay, THAT'S scary to read, because that's a trauma professional, not one of us laymen......looking4OPH wrote:So, is this that director of emergency? Glad he got the whole show in for you guys. I am also glad that he was in very good hands.Rayblues wrote:Hi Gang
We waited 22 years for his return to Sydney. I managed to get tickets to last night's show, after the two Opera House gigs were sold out within ten minutes.
It was a brilliant show; so many Aussie Parrotheads plus those that flew in especially. JB was in superb form.
We were in row 14, pretty close. After a solo "Lovely Cruise" finale, everyone went nuts. He stepped forward towards the front rows and went down. We thought he jumped but then it went silent. People were yelling out "are you okay Jimmy?" We were asked - forcefully - to leave. Everyone filed out, really worried. Many of us were up much of the night, on the internet and phoning radio stations. Plenty of fans waited outside St Vincent's for news and prayers.
It's incredible the Director of Emergency was in the front row! One thing about Australia, we have a comparatively wonderful health system. That hospital is THE best bar none. The staff is superb, and he would have had the best treatment with all the best equipment and knowledge. Hey, the Head of ER is a Parrothead, so you know it!
There will be much discussion about "how it happened". One theory is that he was unsighted by the sudden sweeping of spotlights. It will definitely make all performers think about this - many have white tape, or carpet, to clearly identify the edge.
The terrible accident made all the news outlets and showed how strong his support is here in Australia. We are just so relieved for Jimmy, his family, friends and other fans. He seems to have had the best possible outcome from the worst possible stage accident.
Auckland is cancelled. He/they have made the right call. He needs to recover from this physical trauma.
We need him still very much, so we need him to rest up, re-group and probably come up with some funny lines and maybe a new song for your Spring/Summer gigs.

Now there's a quote you just don't hear every day!Rayblues wrote:Hey, the Head of ER is a Parrothead, so you know it!
We know our fellow parrotheads from Australia love Jimmy as much as we do. And I know I can say for everyone that we are all eternally grateful he got such great care so quickly! Australia ROCKS!!!!!Rayblues wrote:Hi Gang
