Just got off the phone with a Rep. from Margaritaville and was told that IT IS UP TO JIMMY to make the decision on holding this concert and that decision would not be made until THE DAY OF THE CONCERT! I was told that this happened in MA a few years ago and Jimmy decided to start the concert EARLY the same day instead of cancelling it. I was also told to keep checking Margaritaville.com for any possible announcements!
For GW ......it was announced at the Thursday show , that he would be starting at 3 to hopefully dodge the storm...FYI.....he didn't dodge it totally.....i got soaked......since there is NO tailgating....he might as well do a morning show.....reverse tailgate...enjoy the show...then go to a hotel and party the night away!!

From Amtrak.com:

Thursday, Aug. 25
11:00 a.m. EDT

As Hurricane Irene continues to progress, Amtrak is canceling train service for Friday, Saturday and Sunday operating south of Washington. Additional cancellations may be necessary in the coming days as the major storm moves north. Currently, service on the Northeast Corridor is not affected.

this being the case, and in Jimmy's flipflops, I would consider the show postponed/cancelled. The logistics of getting people in there, out of there, etc., in that weather, it's easier to tack it on later and let the Lube take one for the team in the name of safety. It also gives the option of refunds, and those folks who were offended by the stealth decision to ban tailgating can vote their opinion of that decision with their wallets

Prince William County's finest,
and they are ... I have the utmost respect for
the men and women in law enforcement ....

.... surely ... will be needed elsewhere in
the county on Saturday and again on Sunday
as we experience in excess of 6" of rain,
potential (probable) hurricane force winds,
and certainly widespread power outages
over this weekend.

They do not need to be protecting people
and enforcing tailgating bans and traffic flow
for Jimmy's concert this weekend.

Virginia has already declared a state of emergency.

We do not need anything like the tragic accident
that happened at the Indiana State Fair a few weeks ago.
Jiffy Lube Live needs to cancel/reschedule this show.

Now.

JLL is saying that Jimmy is responsible for making the call. Sounds like a lawyer is whispering in their ear. :-?
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

unless it is specifically in his contract, it's hard to believe he is responsible for the final say and not the venue owners and local officials. (and I am not going to open the can of worms about his people being called responsible for performance decisions and are out of his hands)

not that this will help since I don't vote in VA but...I just emailed this to the governor's office.

"You have issued a state of emergency for VA. Jiffy Lube Live continues to deflect the decision to close the venue/cancel the Jimmy Buffett concert scheduled for Aug 27 to everyone else. There are thousands of fans traveling to your great state for this concert, some of whom are already on the road. Might your office be able to convince the venue that, in the interests of public safety, they cancel the show NOW. Thank you"

From The Weather Channel:

Hurricane Irene is threatening hundreds of miles of highly populated areas along the U.S. coast. Millions of Americans could potentially feel the storm's impacts in the next week. Emergency managers from the Carolinas to the Northeast are taking precautions. President Obama has also started receiving briefings on the storm status.

Here's the very latest on how communities near Manassas are preparing.

North Carolina (State of Emergency declared ahead of storm)

Dare County: Mandatory evacuation order is in effect for the county
Currituck County: Tourists ordered to evacuate coast on Thursday
NC Ferry System: First-come, first-serve basis for all vehicles pending road conditions
State Dept. of Transportation: Workers are positioning heavy equipment on Hatteras Island to keep N.C. 12 open as long as possible The highway is highly vulnerable to flooding during storms
Ocracoke/Hyde County: Evacuations began Wednesday morning

Virginia

State Level Emergency Responders: FEMA says it has sent incident management assistance teams to staging areas in Virginia, in anticipation of further deployment to potential hurricane impact areas along the coast.
Old Dominion University: Announced that the campus will be closed this weekend and the start of classes for the fall semester will be delayed by three days. Residence halls will close at 7 p.m. on Thursday and the rest of campus will close at 5 p.m. Friday. The university will help find shelter for students with no other accomodations.
Tolls Open: Northbound tolls on the Chesapeake Expressway have been lifted as of 8 a.m. today.
U.S. Navy: The U.S. Navy has ordered the second fleet to leave Norfolk Naval Station, out to sea, to keep the ships safe.

Amtrak has cancelled trains south of Washington D.C for Friday Through Sunday

This is from JLL's FB page. This doesn't sound to me like it's up to Jimmy
Some of the comments are pretty funny - like "WTF? The governor has already declared a state of emergency and you're MONITORING the situation?!!!" I think they're afraid no one will want tix for a rescheduled show under the circumstances
