Seems like it's always around 100 degrees in August when JB plays Manassas........ :o

If tailgating is truly prohibited, this will be my last trip there......

This is a great point......

Look, none of us are arguing the seriousness of DUI and the needless deaths that can occur. But if that is truly the concern of JLL (which I personally don't buy) then why are YOU selling YOUR alcohol from 6 pm until after 11 pm inside YOUR venue????? That's plenty of time for YOUR concertgoers to get plastered and still, God forbid, cause fatal accidents after the show....... [smilie=hello.gif]

Maybe someone should let them know the agreement Great Woods (Comcast Center) made with local residents and police this year that will be in place for the long term. Why p*** off an entire population when there is a easy middle ground to make everyone happy.
http://www.thesunchronicle.com/articles ... 232658.txt

As part of the deal, the Comcast Center agreed to open its parking lot at least three hours before each show in response to traffic complaints from residents and businesses in Norton.

In recent years, the 19,900-seat concert venue had pushed back when it opened its lots, but the result had been tailgaters clogging roads and filling the parking spaces of businesses on Route 140 in Norton.

The exception to the three-hour rule will be the Jimmy Buffet show, when the parking lots will open at 11 a.m. for an 8 p.m. show to accommodate the older rocker's festive fans.

Of course, normally, I'd say, "screw the rule, we'll tailgate anyway" (like most fans); however, I fear that this year they won't open the lots up early enough to allow us get in any quality tailgating...

Also- I can't believe they are going to lose all that money on the 'premier parking.'

I must admit, I don't get why they want to bump up the time to serve alcohol until 11pm. If I remember correctly, I went to a concert in Foxboro that was delayed because of a monsoon that hit. I want to say that they served up until a certain time, and it was no where hear the end of the concert. It could have been 10pm, but I am not sure. Doing something like that makes more sense to me.

So they're going to stop people from tailgating before the concert and have them sober up during......so they can serve alcohol until 11 inside the venue and THEN let them gett in their cars to drive home.....oh yea I get it now......idiots....

Not going for sure now. We'll drive/fly someplace else to see friends.

YES!!!!! We'd LOVE to see you! But how long would that visit be? 30 minutes? An hour if we're lucky? This makes me sad that JLL has taken that decision away from us. I'm a grown woman and I tend to want to make those choices myself.

Yeah, it's sad. I wonder Mac will play at the State Theather? If so, maybe we will all see each other then.

I hate to state the obvious but they can only gouge you if you choose to drink. Although are they not allowing ANYTHING in, not even water or soft drinks? Not being much of a drinker I'm usually stone sober for shows and I can't say it's taken much away from my enjoyment. Just a thought. I know I sound like a huge buzzkill but when did being drunk become a necessity at any concert?

It's not just about drinking though. Tailgating involves walking around, mingling with friends (and meeting new ones), playing games, grilling, etc. I called the venue today and they said patrons are to "head inside the venue as soon as you park your car". That's really a shame if they hold to it. Sadly looks like the end of an era for JB in Manassas. Maybe he plays FedEx Field next year, who knows?

You're right, you don't have to be drunk, or be gouged for drinks inside, but tailgating is more than just drinking. Sure, drinking is a part of it, but what about sitting around under an EZ-up, snacking and spending time with friends you might not get to see very often? JLL is apparently banning anything in the parking lots, not just drinking. While I enjoy Jimmy's shows, I also enjoy the pre-concert social activities just as much. Not really into just parking and going to my seat.

I agree, that part is totally stupid, and that IS the essence of the tailgate. I was basically addressing the outrage that "Now we have to drink inside the venue and spend a lot of money to do it" I guess they figure if they allow anything at all in the lot they'll end up with the same situation. I know it's been mentioned in other years in other threads when venues threaten to crack down, that it's not generally the hard core Buffett fans but the people who show up just to party and have no intention of heading in to the concert. Sad.

We always arrive around noon and have a "celebratory" margarita, then drink water until later in the day. We drive 4 hours + hotel and then do shrimp/crabs/steak on the grill. We will be trying to sell our tix (sec. 103 + 2 VIP PARKING. ) We're going to the V.B. show and it doesn't make sense to drive to Bristow.

I think a flood of already-purchased tickets will becoming available for the Bristow show now from disgruntled Parrotheads.......not that there is much of a market for them! :o  [smilie=cwl.gif] [smilie=puking.gif]

If true, the venue knows perfectly well that they will never get that many cars parked before the show starts. I see a lot of p*ssed off fans missing part of the show.

Sadly, I'll miss seeing my Northern VA friends this year. Glad I hadn't bought a ticket yet for what used to be one of the best venues on the tour. :( :(

(And for me, it's not about the alcohol. It's about visiting with friends, walking the lot, etc. Wonder what video they'll show during CILCIA? :-? )
