How do Bands get paid?
So how do members of a band, any band, get paid. Do the get paid per performance. Do they get a flat salary? Do they commit to a certain number of performances in return for a salary? Who pays their travel? What about their food? Do they get a per diem? Nosy minds (mine for instance) would like to know.

I have no clue, nor do I care. If I had to guess, it probably depends on who their boss is and how he, or she, chooses to pay them. But it's not something that causes me to lose sleep thinking about it.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

I would imagine in American dollars. That is generally the accepted currency around here.

Weed. Weed and per diem cash. Keys to the rental car are first come first served.

Re: How do Bands get paid?
it all depends on the band, the the number of members and their "financial" popularity. My guess is you're asking "how much the Coral Reefer Band get paid?" All I can say is I'm not a member so I don't know, but I hope the answer is well.rmissbrook wrote:So how do members of a band, any band, get paid. Do the get paid per performance. Re: How do Bands get paid?
It really depends on the group/band. Most of the Coral Reefers are "hired" players. It's Jimmy's deal and they work for him. They tend to have a contract paying them either per performance or an set time frame. Most of the Coral Reefers get a nice stable income, and it allows them to follow other pursuits.
Now a true "band" might do it differently. If four guys started out together, it's more likely that they are on a "share" system. Obviously songwriters in a band are going to do better because of royalties.

Re: How do Bands get paid?
Not sure if it answers your question but I know as far as songwriting royalties go R.E.M. credited all four members with every song, that way there was never any arguing over who earned what. They all earned equal amounts. Many other artists have taken note of that and have followed the same business model.
