The whole magazine is "Budget Travel" We subscribe. It has gone a bit more upscale, but I remember when we first subscribed one of their tips for saving money on trips was to go and eat in the local hospital cafeterias when traveling because food there was always pretty cheap. :o

And don't a lot of those islands in the Bali area have trouble with Al Queda terrorists, etc. ?
I know Bali and the Phillipines do. :o Key West is tropical, and still in the US. I like St. Thomas-St. John and......who'm I kiddin' ? I like ALL tropical islands. :D

Al Queda? Not so much. Remember that Indonesia is the most populous Islamic nation on earth, so it doesn't need to import Al Queda's brand of Islam. It has its own version fronted by Jemaah Islamiyah (J.I. for short).

Having said that, Bali and a few other islands of Indonesia are not as "islamic", in fact it Bali is traditionally a Hindu enclave.

I still can't belive that anyone would rate Bali in the top ten anyway - 20 years ago, maybe, today it is a grade A tourist trap.

Also, although I like KW, it isn't really a tropical island, I guess working and visiting through most of the South Pacific has spoilt me (as has being 3 to 10 flight hours from a lot of them).
