"Back in the day" when Buffett used to play two shows in Atlanta, usually Thursday and Saturday in the summer, was when the tailgating at Lakewood was legendary. But for some time now, he's been coming in the spring and on a weekday. That puts a real crimp in the tailgating activities. It's still fun, of course, but not at all like the gargantuan parties of the past. Those were the days of the hundred or so tiki bars around the lot, the gas-powered bar stool and blenders, and a reasonable percentage of the partiers couldn't locate their clothes by mid-afternoon. Also, beware of photographers with long telephoto lenses (me, for instance) roaming the parking lot, catching people unawares. Well, things are not what they once were.TNbrownidgirl wrote:Anybody familiar with Lakewood in Atlanta...PLEASE HELP!
We are from Memphis and are not familiar with anything about Atlanta. I would like to know where the best place is to set-up for tailgating. We will have a pop-up tent and plan to put up a portable tiki bar and maybe a small pool. While a huge fan, my first concert was last year in St. Louis (Jimmy hasn't been in Memphis since 1995, and I refuse to go see JB in an indoor arena (Nashville)). I'm bringing 2 girl friends and I need advice on the best parking lot and what time to try to arrive to get a good spot.

A few years ago I did see a tanker truck driving through filling the odd pool. (Anyone remember the guy that would setup a full sized aboveground pool?) But you can't count on that truck being there. Now there is a creek and that creek flows into a lake. (A few years ago I saw two people try and cross that lake in a kiddie pool, they didn't get far.) But a word of caution on the creek/lake. Once the porta-john lines get long and start to ferment in the GA sun, people begin to use the woods along the creek/lake to dispose of used beer. Might not want to utilize this water resource after 1 pee m.sexygapeach2005 wrote:My boyfriend & I will be there and we're facing a dilemma: how do u get water for ur kiddie pools?

Considering the area of town Lakewood is located, I don't think I would utilize that water source at all. Would be almost as nasty as Charlie Sheen's hot tub.spucketts wrote:A few years ago I did see a tanker truck driving through filling the odd pool. Don't believe that have rules like that at Lakewood. And if they do, they need to bring a lot, A LOT of tickets for writting cause the party goes on!hulagirlatheart1973 wrote:Hulagirl here. I saw in Bristol that they are cracking down on tailgating. Meaning no canapy, grills, or booze. They're not enforcing that in atlanta are they? That will just dampen all egos alike. I'm bringing my mother, sister and husband with me. Will be great fun if they don't enforce any rules. IF things go well I'll be there on the front row of the parking lot by the ticket gate. See ya'll there!
