Slumming it in Cinti! I don't think so! Chicago can't compare to the MECCA!Randy1278 wrote:After doing some thinking and schedule planning, it looks like the Mrs. and I will not be able to make it to Chicago this year. Instead we will be slumming it in Cincy with the small lawn and the average parking lot party.
Sorry everyone! Maybe see you guys next year.

I think you do, K.K.
(The concert too, but I'll be content to see you even if it's just the ballgame). I really hope to see you SOMEWHERE that weekend.

It's coming up fast.... less than 3 weeks! I was with most of the usual suspects last night and we started planning...
Re: Who's Going to Chicago(Toyota Park) 7/23/11?
Wish this group would do some planning.

Maybe we should start a campaign to draft a few of the G.W. people for this one.ejr wrote:Wish this group would do some planning.
I have a feeling we're going to end up in the parking lot with nothing but P.B.R. and potato chips.

Oh my God! I just realized that I could totally make this show.
Hmmm...
Hmmm...
I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.
She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

Talked to a friend in Louisville, I can stop, pick her up and we could be there by late Friday night. How's the tailgating up there? I left my easy up in Florida.Wino you know wrote:NO "HMMMMMM!"maid memories wrote:Oh my God! I just realized that I could totally make this show.

Re: Who's Going to Chicago(Toyota Park) 7/23/11?
Well, USUALLY the tailgating is fantastic, but, sadly, this year, there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm. Compared to years past, we barely have a skeleton crew showing up this year. Don't misunderstand-it'll still be fun. But if you read my previous post prior to my answering yours, I don't think I'm eggagerating. An "easy-up" would be nice, but definately not a necessity. There'll be plenty of beverages, to be sure, but as for a full-scale parrothead type tailgate of what we're used to, I'm not holding my breath. And depending on how late you get in on Friday, we could all meet someplace for dinner & drinks. There are several nice places around the venue. Of course, on Sunday, you and your friend are most welcome to come along to Margaritaville at Navy Pier with us, and to Nadirah and Ilo's show later that afternoon. We'd all be very happy if you were able to come and hang out with us.maid memories wrote:Talked to a friend in Louisville, I can stop, pick her up and we could be there by late Friday night. Nashville always makes me crazy with the lack of tailgating. Even if the BN crew isn't big, how is the general tailgating atmosphere up there? I'd be bringing two virgins.Wino you know wrote:Well, USUALLY the tailgating is fantastic, but, sadly, this year, there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm. Re: Who's Going to Chicago(Toyota Park) 7/23/11?
The general tailgating is as good as anywhere. Lots of fun, lots of intresting characters, and it's pretty easy to make friends with just about anybody there. The Chicago P.H.C. is probably one of the best group of people in the country, I.M.O.
Re: Who's Going to Chicago(Toyota Park) 7/23/11?
It actually is not as bad as Garry indicates. There is one faction of our group that does a fantastic, elaborate tailgate, but he is in the VIP parking (larger space and off to the side--he has multiple spaces) so the rest of us are not located near him,
generally we have a couple of easy-ups. The group is usually pretty low-key, but we have a good time. the lot opens at 8 this year, I think, though a group of us usually go around 9:30 or so and get some space with others joining when they can. Beer is always plentiful, but we do need someone who can bring a grill this year or we will have to totally reinvent the whole food issue,.
I am being rebellious and not coordinating things as much as I usually do, hoping someone else will step in---anyone, anyone? But we will have a small but energetic group out there in the morning!
