And I occasionally wish I'd defied my mom and gone to Woodstock.

Thankfully, they've never referred to themselves as the Grateful Dead since Garcia died. I've heard lots of good things about Furthur (the current project with Weir and Lesh involving the former guitarist from Dark Star Orchestra) but I have very mixed feelings about seeing what is essentially a tribute act. I've heard of Robert Hunter penning some new songs for them but I haven't heard if any of them have been incorporated into the live act yet.

I was lucky enough to make it to the VERY LAST GRATEFUL DEAD show July 9th 1995 at Solider Field. Opening song was Touch Of Grey

The only show on that tour I saw was the second night in Charlotte. Jerry was in such bad shape that at one point someone had to direct him towards his teleprompter as a reminder to sing. On the Soldier Field tip, I still have trouble making it through the recording of "So Many Roads" from that show without cracking a tear. He is definitely missed.

John Lennon
A big tour was announced after Double Fantasy came out, and
his band (and presumably Yoko) was scheduled to play SD Sports Arena on Jan.15, 1981
that one didn't work out ....

I know I've told this story before but I'm old so I'll tell it again. When the Monkees were really popular back in the '60s they did a concert at the Forest Hills tennis stadium here in NY. My brother went with some of his friends but my parents wouldn't let me go because they thought I was too young. The Monkees had an opening act. Jimi Hendrix.
Hendrix opening for the Monkees????????? Now that's a strange combination.......

There are a few that I wish I would have seen in their prime.
Steely Dan
Pink Floyd (though Australian Pink Floyd is great...and some say better than the original)
Rush
Santana

The strangest I ever saw was a three way bill of Buffett, the Spinners and NC band Nantucket at UNC in Chapel Hill around '79 before Volcano came out. Buffett even thanked The Spinners' choreographer.

They still put on a hell of a show. And they are currently touring.

That, they do and for anyone that hasn't seen it, I highly recommend the documentary Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage. Hell, I think it's so good I'd even recommend it to people who aren't even fans of Rush (and Lord knows, there's plenty of those folks out there). Their next album, Clockwork Angels (not due until 2012) promises to be a return to the epic songs of Rush's past.

Otis Redding
WHAT!!! You missed the infamous Monkees/James Marshall Hendrix tour back in the day??
Off the top of my head I would have to say The Who.
SRV as well.

I was lucky enough to see The Who in 1971 at the Mississippi River Festival. It was the summer before I started high school and one of the priests in our parish took a group to the show....it was an "interesting" experience.
I did get to see Rush last summer and the show was great.

I wasn't aware that Rush was still "out there"........might be an option if I can't get to a Buffett show this year!

Rush sound as good as ever, even if Geddy has lost a good bit of his highest wail.
I was thinking i would catch 'em when they stop in SD in June
but I look at the calendar, and that date, 6/18, is the same day of my make-up U2 show in Anaheim.
If I could get another chance at a few other great shows missed:
Led Zeppelin (w/John Bonham)
The Who (w/Keith Moon)
I had ticket opportunities for both around '77, had to pass at the time... but thought "I'm sure I'll catch 'em next time around!"

As an alternative perspective, after thirty something years in and out of the music industry as an instrument tech and roadie, there are a heap of bands I regret seeing....

I am learning...with some groups, there is never a next time around.

I walked out on the only time I had that chance. It was in a small venue and it was excruciatingly loud.
I did get to see him on his last concert tour though.
The Monkees i was super crazy about them and would love to have seen them live.
Nutmeg, you might like to know that The Monkees are touring this year...
Oh Nutmeggggggg.....The Monkees will be appearring at our local "after hours" concert series where I work on June 8.
