Computer Question...
OK, just got back my OLD faithful computer after a nasty "FB" virus hit it.
Everything back to normal, EXCEPT one strange thing....
I have Windows XP, and I'll turn off my computer. After about 10 seconds it turns back on.
I have the same hardware/software that I have had for years with no problems. So not sure WHY the computer reboots after I click "TURN OFF."
Any ideas?

Re: Computer Question...
A. Obvious...it isn't selected to "restart" or something else?
B. Try to boot up in safe mode and then try and shut down to see if it happens
C. Call the computer people that worked on it to make sure it shut down without a problem while they had it.
That is all I have to offer. Good luck.

Re: Computer Question...
Check this:
click Contol Panel, then System. Click Advanced tab, then Startup & Recovery. Click Settings under Startup & Recover. Look at the System Failure options and make sure Automatically Restart is NOT ticked.

Called the computer guy, and he had no trouble shutting it down and having it stay off.tigzoe wrote:A. Obvious...it isn't selected to "restart" or something else?

Re: Computer Question...
I had nastiness on my computer at work. I downloaded malwarebytes and had to run the program twice in safe mode to get rid of it. If you are still having issues, you might want to try that.

I did find this out
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311806
Check to see if you have a Roxio program on your computer.

Welll that was interersting. Will stay off in safe mode, but not in regular mode.tigzoe wrote:A. Obvious...it isn't selected to "restart" or something else?

So it has to be a software issue.
The funny thing is that, I didn't install anything when I first brought it home.
But at least this will give my computer guy a little more info to go on.
THANKS! Oh, and I saw that about Roxie, didn't install that.

Re: Computer Question...
Solved it with your suggestion! Shut down and stayed off in safe mode, but in safe mode with network, it would reboot. Looked at network card settings, and somehow when he restored it, it was set to WAKE UP on shut down.tigzoe wrote:A. Obvious...it isn't selected to "restart" or something else?

Re: Computer Question...
WOOHOO!!!!! Some times it does pay to be a little geekish. But seriously...why would you want the network to wake once the computer is shut down. I think one of the option on my mac is to wake the computer with blue tooth activity. Um no...when I want my computer to wakey wakey, it will be on my terms.BahamaBreeze wrote:Solved it with your suggestion! more than likely he set the switch to on while testing and inadvertently forgot to turn the switch off prior to releasing the pc back to you.tigzoe wrote:WOOHOO!!!!! I have set this many a time in order to verify and/or install software that might need to be installed in a specific order. much easier to have it shutdown and restart following actions when working on multiple units at once.

Re: Computer Question...
That makes sense and hopes it the case. The guy has been in town since 2000, so I would think if anything "funny" was going on, he wouldn't still be here. Thanks.oph wrote:more than likely he set the switch to on while testing and inadvertently forgot to turn the switch off prior to releasing the pc back to you.tigzoe wrote:WOOHOO!!!!!
