Texas Rangers at Mariners: Sept. 19, 2010 game thread

Ryan Langerhans just tripled to right field and came home to score the go-ahead run on a single by Josh Wilson. So, make it 2-1 for the Mariners as we head to the eighth inning. Brandon League is now on after Doug Fister managed to go seven innings, allowing just the one run on nine scattered hits.
So, I'm sitting here in the pressbox covering the game and I get a phone call from my better half, Amy, who is off on a business trip today and was at the Delta lounge at SeaTac Airport.
"Ever heard of someone named Gordie Howe?'' she asks.
Uh, yeah, I replied, naming his hometown, the names of his kids, the fact that he was the NHL's all-time scoring leader until Wayne Gretzky came along, that he played in the NHL into his fifties, etc.
So, she actually puts "Mr. Hockey" on the phone and we start shooting the breeze for the next five minutes about Canada and other stuff. I asked him what brought him to Seattle and he tells me "The pretty blonde who just put me on the phone with you.''
Good to see a guy in his 80s still has a sense of humor. Told him to keep his elbows away from her and he laughed (like he hasn't heard that joke eight million times). Told me he was in Seattle for a fundraiser.
For those of you baseball purists who can't stand the thought of anything hockey on someone else's blog, it was about the equivalent of having Babe Ruth get on the horn.
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.
