I had a shot of the dark rum at M'ville in Orlando last year when I was down there for the concert in February. By no means am I a rum expert, but I wasn't impressed. People who get moist in the loins over all things Buffett will probably rave about it because "OMG!!!!!! IT'S JIMMY'S RUM!!!!!!" just like they think Landshark is really "beer". Never bothered looking for it in a liquor store here on Long Island.

I do like rum, so you guys have me scared. On the other hand, i do really like Landshark when it is hot out instead of Corona and know a lot of non-parrotheads that do too. hmmmmm

I consider myself to be fairly knowledgable about rum. I currently have around 10 different rums at home right now. I tried the Margaritaville Rum at the cafe in Key West last year and have since ordered a few bottles online (it's not yet available in OH). I ordered a few bottles of the dark rum as I tend to like the darker rums. I think it is pretty good. Obviously, it's not top shelf but I don't think it is claiming to be. Just like the tequilla, it is decent and it is good for mixing. The tequilla doesn't claim to be Patron and the Rum isn't claiming to be Zacapa or other top shelf bottles. The Dark Rum actually isn't bad straight up either. I think it was around $25 a bottle online so I imagine it might be a little cheaper in the stores. It's made in Jamaica. I would give it a try.

What part of Ohio you from? Columbus area here. If you find any Ohio stores that have it let me know. Is the dark kinda like Myers? that has been my new fav for rum and coke.

Z-man has taught me well.
Zaya's now made in Trinidad by the Angostura folks (used to be the Zacapa people). Guatemalan Zaya was wonderful (we still have a bottle), but New Zaya is still good, if less complex. It's a little sweeter, a little more smoothed out, but not really in a good way. If you like Zaya and Zacapa, and see Ron Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, grab it, you will love it!

I prefer Margaritaville Spiced over Captain, but I wouldn't drink either straight. The Dark isn't bad for a $15 bottle to sip- they've added molasses to it, so it's smooth and sweet, but it's the only thing you really smell/taste. It's wholly inoffensive, and what I would choose from the grocery store shelf since they changed the Cruzan Estate Dark. It's not what I would reach for on a liquor store shelf though.

I agree. Overall, the Dark has a good taste. Maybe I am biased because now I associate that taste with being in Key West :D I'm sure it will be one of the rums that I will always want to have onhand at home. While I have/had a few more higher quality rums, my current favorite would have to be Kraken. If you haven't tried that yet, go out and get some.

I've seen it but have yet to buy it because I usually just do beer but when I do my fave is Sailor Jerry.
Much like the tequila, I don't think it's trying to be a "pinky up" rum.
My theory, in the end, it all gets you fitshaced.
My wife makes a lot of rum cakes and I've been telling her to try this Margaritaville Rum for one.

I'll look for the Ron Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Still have the "old" Zaya........now I'm really going to try to make it last. :D

The coconut flavored rum is good; even drank some straight, chilled with a squeeze of lime. Very smooth. Makes me thirsty for some right now

I tried a couple of them at the restaurants but haven't found it for sale anywhere in Colorado yet. I like the silver and coconut rums. Not a fan of spiced.

We've tried the Margaritaville dark rum and think it is really really good. I don't think you will be disappointed.
