Good luck! My little one is having hers out (and adnoids) on Thursday.
Please let me know how it goes! They don't think they'll take his adenoids since is problem is all tonsils, but they'll decide when they are in there what they'll do.
I've been reading on the recovery times. Sounds like keeping that throat moist and little body hydrated is the key to a less painful recovery. We're getting a squirt bottle full of water for him to squirt in his mouth. Among other things.
What kind of toys, movies, games, etc. did you stock up on to keep her busy during recovery?
I think we're going to move our small TV, the Wii, and DVD/VCR in his room and stock up on some new games and movies.
Sounds about right for recovery. Lots of ice cream and liquid. She's only 4 so we are probably going to plunk her down on the couch in front of the TV and put Cinderella on a continous loop.

It's Phineas and Ferb for us.

My little girl had her tonsils and adnoids out today. Pretty quick. So far so good. They suggested soft food relatively soon after we got home to get some food in her stomach. She loves noodles so we went that route. We are home, she is watching Marry Poppins and eating ice cream. We are really trying to hydrate her because we here day 2 and 3 are worse than day 1.

Glad she did well! I hope 2 and 3 are as smooth as 1.
How long were you in recovery after the procedure?

Recovery was about two hours. She went into surgery at ~9:15 and left the hospital around noon.
Day 2 and Day 3 - not so good. She totally refused the pain meds (which also had Tylenol in it) so hurt AND got a fever. Fever is normal apparently. So, we gave her straight Tylenol which did on okay job. That was Day 2. Then, she refused the Tylenol and we went to the pediatrician who said, basically, give her Tylenol and liquids. He said she should pee at leat 3 times in a 24 hour period. That was Day 3. Day 4 was yesterday and we tried to get her to eat and drink liquids with little success. Her fever broke last night. Day 5 is today. She barfed this morning @ 5AM. Awesome! Back to the E and T. Barf is apparently semi-normal. She said 1 oz of liquid an hour so we are pushing that. She is defintely more herself than at any other time since the surgery. And she had a bath, which she desperately needed. Her hair was looking like Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter. Now if he could get her to brush her teeth...

Lets see...definitely more herself yesterday. She took in a good bit of liquid and was even hungry for macaroni and cottage cheese (gross to me but she and my wife like it). She didn't sleep great but that can be normal for her so I take that as a good thing sort of. Today she's is eating a little more, talking alot and drinking (milk and water) so I think she is on an upward swing.

Oh, and still refuses to take pain meds. Hopefully your little dude will take them - my 4 year old can't get her head wrapped around the "take them and you will feel better thing".

Okay, the last couple of nights have been hell because she hasn't taken any pain meds and she has been up like every hour or so. It's like caring for a newborn. So, your take a way from this is, take the pain meds. And in the words of Samuel L Jackson, "Go the F*ck to Sleep".

Poor thing.
I'm a firm believer of better living thru chemistry and I hope to pass that on to my son.

So, to wrap this whole thing up, it's been a day shy of two weeks and she is definitely back to herself. She is tolerating hot and moderately crunchy food. She's been sleeping much better and her snoring, which was one of the main reasons for doing this, seems to have mostly gone away. The one thing that hasn't happen is the scab hasn't come off. From what I hear, around day 10, the scab falls off and there is a little bit of blood. That hasn't happen.
So, taking the pain medicine and staying hydrated seemed to be the keys - good luck! Have you scheduled it yet?

We are actually checking into the surgery center now for a procedure that starts in an hour. I am glad your little lady made it through the worst of it. My guy is a snorer too so we are hoping this will help too.

Great to hear. I think it will help the snoring. I think my daughter is starting to sleep better because of the surgery. I hope the recovery goes smoothly.
