Dylan's posted a message on his homepage about the controversy surrounding his recent concert in China. The guy barely utters a word in concert so I'd say this must have really gotten to him for him to address it on his webpage. Very cool of him to clear the air when he didn't really have to.
I can't thank you enough for starting this thread. I look forward to buying the issue when it comes out. I've had the pleasure of seeing him in concert several times over the last 20 years and I can say 2 things. 1) he's definitely a lot better than he was in the early 80's, and 2) he's the sh*t. Period. I love Jimmy, I love Leonard Cohen, I love the Beatles, I love Neil Young, but there is simply nobody as influential, as powerful and ultimately as......I don't even have the word....as Dylan.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

Nevertheless Happy Birthday Bob.
I think it has to with how his songwriting took rock n' roll from songs about girls and cars (not that there's anything wrong with that) into deeper territory subject-wise with "Like A Rolling Stone" being a pretty prime example. He's also shown over the years that you don't have be cornered into one approach to music stylistically. I think Neil Young is another that draws from a broader palette.
