I Just Gotta Stand

Post by OceanIslander »

I know you work hard and just want to relax when you attend a Jimmy Buffett concert. I know your knees creak and ache from all your hard work so getting up and down can be uncomfortable. I know you have put on a few pounds so once you're wedged into your seat it's so hard to get back up. And I don't know if it's all the hard work, but something has sucked all the fun out of your soul and turned you into a bitter shell of a person undeserving of the appellation Parrothead.

The next time I am in front of you at a concert by Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band I will once again stand up and dance most of the time. Yes I dance like a spastic, one-legged bear that has just been Tasered, but I am having fun and I think you forgot how to have fun a long time ago. I know that you went home thinking I was a jerk and there's nothing I can say that will convince you that you were the self-centered, selfish nincompoop who was in a very, very small minority.

Tell you what, next time I'm in front of you and you want to just sit there and tap your toes while you wait for Jimmy to sing Cheeseburger or Margaritaville, just let me know who you are and we can switch seats.

Then you can deal with the guy in front of me who was up dancing the whole time and the girl in front of him and the guy in front of her...and so on and so on.

You can repeat the process until you find someone dancing in front of you who will tire of you yelling "Sit down, a*&%#@+" and will punch you in the face. And I will laugh and feel sorry for you. Oh wait, I already feel sorry for you, so I will just laugh.

That was a little mean to those of us who cannot stand for the whole concert but don't complain (at least not aloud) about everyone else standing. If I could stand and dance, I would, and I do from time to time.

That's funny, the same guy was sitting behind us in Tampa. Sorry dude, whoever you are, but Jimmy makes us wiggle and giggle!

I've got no problem with people standing (it's good to be tall), but I had
a problem a few years back with some young fool that kept blowing a
whistle during every song. I finally told him to shove it somewhere that
would NOT have been impossible, and he stopped. :pirate:

I stand up, sit down, stand up.....back hurts when I stand up too long. But I do not mind if somebody in front of me stands up while I sit. Nobody (hardly) sits during the whole concert, but if they do, they should understand that standing/dancing is part of the experience.
But NOBODY should be  snarky  about either situation.

I recall a concert in Miami a few years ago where a beloved BN'er, whose fault it always is, was told to sit down (they had floor seats). This beloved BN'er simply responded with "It's Buffett, not f'ing Pavarotti" and continued to dance.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

or I could save myself the trouble of moving, and punch you in the back of the head hard enough that you go down. No spastic one-legged bear being tasered taking away from my enjoying the concert. and if security askes, I look at them wide-eyed, and say, "mustabeen hittin' it hard in the lot before the show. some folks just can't hold their jello"

I am one of the people our parents warned us about. I am, also, one of the people who stand up and sing and dance the entire show. That's how I connect to the show. So, I agree with the basic point of the original post on this thread: It's appropriate to stand during the show. However, I'm offended by the tone of the original post. I'm one of the people who stand, so don't address this to me by using the second person singular "You." I've done nothing to you. Obviously, "You" had a bad experience with someone in the audience. Take it up with them.

This kinda reminds me of the last concert we attended. There was a very drunk fellow in front of us who stood and danced throughout the concert. (I did too...though not drunk)

Anyway what was odd about this one was that he had his back to the stage the whole time and was dancing "at" us. I was much more interested in Jimmy and the Coral Reefers than I was in interacting with him so I found him rather distracting...especially since he seemed to enjoy getting between me and the stage. If I moved over, he moved over. He left about 3/4 of the way through the concert (we assumed to get more beer) and never made it back.

He was kinda entertaining at first, but I have to admit that I was glad when he didn't return.

I'm fine with people sitting or standing. They both have their reasons...and I figure no one should feel bad about either.
