What would people think about buying into a "GW Weekend". The reason I choose the words "Buying into" is because in order to make this work, we have to have people commited to it...

First, I talk to the Beachcomber (as Island Vibes Entertainment) and tell them I want to bring in a group of people for the weekend, and would like to help them book artists to play a late afternoon/evening show on Friday for the group which is still open to the public (which keeps us from having to shell out $5K to rent the place). We work with local hotels on Cape Cod, and get a group rate for Friday, Sat & Sunday nights.
Saturday morning we have a bus arrive at the hotel and we all stuff our coolers, chairs, tents, Tiki Bar etc into the storage compartment (hey, if they can stuff a whole hockey teams equipment in there, they can fit our stuff) and we ride up to Shaws and to the concert together.....we'd have a designated Driver, we'd have our own bathroom, we don't have to worry about dead cars and would probably also have electric to run music, blenders etc.

I think in order to make this work we'd need about 40 people (think the buses have a 56 passenger Max). It's before "Summer rates" really kick in, so we could get decent rates (our rates for the motel we stayed at on the beach were the same rate as the Comfort Inn in Mansfield), and could have our own party on the Beach Friday night with Trop Rockers.

Like I said...to do it we need people commited to doing it....you're either in for all of it or not at all in order to make it affordable for everyone.

Whaddaya think???

I'll do as much of the leg work as I can...and give the businesses I'd be working with the window of time we expect to be doing this (early to mid June if Bubba sticks to his schedule of the past few years) and get prices for that window....if the show(s) are in the window, I post the price...if not, we re-calculate....but it's still 3 months or more before the shows, so plenty of time. Between now and MoTM we just need to know if we have 40-60 people willing to do it.

Seriously though, I think it's a great idea. Except that if Dave is willing to cook again we may have to make an allowance for him not staying in the hotels. But at least he wouldn't have to cram everything into the Gunthermoose clown car!

Love ya Chris! What an excellent idea!
If the time frame of the show(s) is the same as this year and the package price is affordable, you can count me in for two.
As of now my plan is to fly into BOS Tuesday, discover Boston Wednesday and Thursday, drive south Friday, show Saturday, Cape Cod Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, to Boston and maybe fly home Wednesday.
So most definitely only one show for us, but in case I'd be willing to pay a little extra if needed to reserve our package!
Paris, France, September 2010. Paris 2011. Paris 2012. 2013. 2015.
Mansfield MA, Great Woods June 18 2011. And June 2012. And 2013!
Jimmy in Key West, MOTM 2011. Unforgettable! And let's not talk about MOTM 2015

I am still amazed at how much he can fit. I don't think I will be able to do it. I need to hang with my Maine friends the day before.

I'm in for whatever the group decides, but if we had a big enough group that was willing to go up on Sunday, I'm sure the Comber would be agreeable to staying open and letting us "help" them book talent for the night. That being said, if we don't have a group big enough for a bus and booking somebody on Friday is still an option, I'm in to drive to the Comber on Friday night and back Saturday morning for the show.

And just in case any of the mods are checking in, I just want to say thanks again for unlocking this thread. Yes, it was partially started as a joke, but we were really coming up with some amazing ideas for next year as we spent two days basking in the afterglow of GW on the Cape and we'll need every bit of a year to firm some of them up and bounce ideas around.

And just in case anybody really wants to laugh, I just booked reservations for the two likely weekends he'll play Tampa next year while rooms are $72 a piece. I'm an odd dichotomy of gypsy and planner.

Ok, my theory with Buffett in Tampa is that he's opened the tour there the last three years on the 4/16/11, 4/25/10 and 4/24/09. In '04 he played 4/22. The in-between years they've been indoor November and February shows, which gives me a pretty good idea of when to reserve rooms. Easter is 4/08 so I'm guessing either the 14th or the 21st, possibly the 28th (money is on the 21st). If he does any winter shows this year my money is on the West Coast. I can always cancel hotel rooms, but I can't convince them to give me a room for $72 once they've jacked the price up to $169 like I just paid in Mansfield. I won't ever leave Buffett hotel plans until the last minute again. I was just happy to get a room in the hotel with the rest of you.

My theory with non-spontaneous traveling is make sure I can get there, make sure I can sleep and make sure I can shower. If there is anything I HAVE to do, make plans for it. Other than that, I fly by the seat of my pants. I have been known to get in the car and drive to Tampa with absolutely nothing but a credit card and the sundress on my back. My best friend is there and I know there's always a couch waiting for me.

I'm trying to figure out how to combine it with a trip to the Mville hotel in Pensacola.
