The Gillette show was before I moved here....just curious....what was so sucky about it?ScarletB wrote:Gillette s*cked - period. If Jesus chose that as his return to earth site I'd still think twice before going.
The generally higher cost of day to day "stuff" like gas and heating oil etc has probably had some impact - but the sellout crowds for ZBB and Cheney may be a result of the fact that for the most part, their tickets are cheaper and therefore more affordable for a lot of people. Vermont is lucky, our unemployment rate has stayed well below the national average.
Having said that I still agree that Cheeseburger needs to go along with a few other songs off the Yellow album - and yeah I "get" that he feels he HAS to play those - but really WHY Jimmy? You don't need the money anymore, may as well play whats fun for you and let the chips fall where they may.
Even with all that, we're all still sitting here champing at the bit for our GW dates so something must be right!

Re: Greatwoods, Tweeter, Comcast, FOXBORO MASS 2012!!!!
Thanks Jon...had a couple of 2nd interviews , so we will see..problem in CT a lot of companies are moving out and, nothing is comong in.....The Patriot Season Ticket Holders aren't poor ,or they are coorporate tickets...there are people with money out there , that can afford that, but, if you polled most people , they can't afford that, my brother has Pats season tickets ,t his are through his Business, and is a Entertainment tax write off , as for Mohegan Sun , most of the Floor seats are comped , i don't know of a person who dropped the 250.00 or more , mos peoplet i know, sat in the upper levels at about 100.00 or behind the stage which were 66.00 . Not sure on Margaritaville bar tabs , i was in the lot, and maybe had a couple of drinks at Margaritavilledrunkpirate66 wrote:I think it is horrible that you are out of work and I sincerely wish you the best in the upcoming year for employment but mass groups of people are spending their money on many things that are not practical (like Kenny Chesney and New England Patriots tickets who both sell out consistently and Patriots tickets are uber expensive). The fact is in 2007 Jimmy Buffett sold 130,000 tickets at Gillette and sold out Mohegan Sun. Jimmy Buffett is now down 110,000 tickets in sales from that point and can't sell out Great Woods on a Saturday. Springsteen sold out the Boston Garden in like 4 minutes. As did the Foo Fighters. People are spending their money. They just aren't spending it on Jimmy Buffett like they used to.TommyBahama wrote:i disagree on the Economy part...i've been out for a year now ( CT has one of the highest unemployment rates in the US). The two most popular pieces of rationale for this are:
1. The new uncovered seats at Great Woods where the majority of the lawn used to be that cost the same amount of money as a front row seat. I disagree. 90% of the seats at Gillette sucked. Factor in the cost for parking and you basically have the same cost as an uncovered seat at Great Woods. Not to mention, the uncovered seats at Great Woods, as bad as they are, are better than Gillette that sold out 110,000 more tickets.
2. Economy. I disagree. Unemployment rates around New England have remained consistent from 2007 until now (a two second google search will show you this - actually more people are working now) and other events like Kenny Chesney and the New England Patriots still sell out (neither are cheap tickets).
Synopsis: Jimmy needs to stop playing Cheeseburger in Paradise. Us New Englanders have heard that sh*t far too many times. It. Needs. To. Die.
The only realistic reason for this is Cheeseburger in Paradise. It is that bad.
Springsteen hasn't toured in a while , Could it be overkill with Jimmy , he's here every year and it's pretty much the same, i think the open air seat prices hurt , i know, i wouldn't pay that kind of money for that seat.....people may be spending money on tickets , but, they are cutting back on other stuff.
so yes , they are selling out , but , how much of tickets are being bought by the Middle Class. And in my case a single income. Most my money goes into my gas tank , which is sad!!...Jon , will we see you at Convention in March???

I didn't think it was horrible. But sound quality and, again, the fact that it is a stadium show with 90% of the seats being less than favorable has alot to do with it. And, people love Great Woods. People love Jimmy Buffett but people REALLY have strong emotion towards seeing Jimmy at Great Woods. Can't explain it.
That being said, I wish I didn't reference Kenny Chesney because it will now become a Jimmy v. Kenny debate. I don't mean it like that (and Chesney's tickets are 115$ - factor in 60$ to park and you are at Jimmy Buffett level for cost, Pam. Springsteen's are 114 plus Boston parking. They both sold out in minutes - two shows for KC). Let me rephrase my point/question: where did the 110,000 + Parrot Heads go from 2007?
Seems like a massive drop off in ticket sales, don't it? Again, people are spending money to go to shows and sporting events (Patriots seats are all over 100$ and most people are season ticket holders who spend their money for 8 home games AND pay for parking . . . ). Jimmy can't sell out 1 show at Great Woods. I am just trying to figure out why. It aint the seating (Gillette is worse) and it aint the cost (people are spending their money). 130,000 + tickets sales to something like 17,000 . . . eye opening, to me, atleast.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Chesney tickets for Gillette went way up in price this year ( the good seats anyways) , also it's a all day event, with a lot of other top acts

i'm going up for Sat only......another reason on why GW doesn't sell out ( my guess) , maybe it's opening the lots later the last few years and tailgating has become a hassle , another could be , Fans travel to see him at different venues, and tying it into a Vacation, just speculating. Also , i think there are a lot more Trop Rock events that fans would rather go to, and spend there money. It is about the gathering lately then the show...Just some guesses!!drunkpirate66 wrote:Not sure yet. All fine guesses. Although, lets be honest - there is NO greater hassle than getting in and out of Gillette so that aint it. I agree about the gathering. Would rather stumble around Great Woods Buffett all day drunk than actually see a full day of shows before Chesney. Re: Greatwoods, Tweeter, Comcast, FOXBORO MASS 2012!!!!
Jon, what I hated about Gillette was the sheer size. I was close to the stage and I felt like he was playing across the street. I can't imagine how the people in the nosebleed section felt. I also didn't know what Springsteen tix are going for it's pricey but if you're a fan he doesn't come around much so totally worth it. If anything, this year it's going to be harder for Jimmy because a lot of acts who only go on tour occasionally are out there. I'm still saving some fun ticket money for a Rolling Stone 50th - who knows if they'll even do it. But my money has gone to Van Halen tix (I don't care if they aren't the 80's VH, I've never seen them, I was doing the domestic thing in their heyday) seeing Steve Martin in Boston and of course my "other James" James Taylor at Tanglewood. Great acts in good venues and people (except JT) that I don't see all the time. I didn't have as good a year financially as last year so I have had to parcel out my money more carefully which is why I won't be in Tampa to see a show I've probably seen already - though I will miss the people I can't pay airfare etc just for the party. It will be interesting to see how it goes. Sec 1,2 & 3 sellout fast the next sections to club seats and those outside seats - who knows??

Re: Greatwoods, Tweeter, Comcast, FOXBORO MASS 2012!!!!
All I can say is that I remember a time not too long ago (and still during the recession) where I knew of many people who would use scalpers like aceticket.com to pay 2 - 3 times the face value of a ticket for Jimmy Buffett at Great Woods because the demand was so high. This year I am going to have my laptop and my desktop set up and I am putting in for a single lawn and a single pavillion. If I get Section 2 I will take it. If not then I will hope for a lawn. If I don't get either then we'll see what happens. I am sure many many other people have the same mindset.
Something happened over the past few years around Margaritiville Great Woods and in many ways it is good for the die hard fans because if you want to go you can get a ticket the day of no problem. The bad end of it is there is no longer that "Super Bowl" of Buffett vibe that existed for many a year. Still a d*mn great time with d*mn great people at d*mn Great Woods
but the feeling of epic anarchy is just a real happy memory. I will still get drunk and screw. It will just take more effort.

the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Great Woods is a breeze in comparison too Camden and Jones Beach as it relates to tailgating. JB is fairly easy to get into as long as you aren't driving an RV and the traffic at Camden is a nightmare not to mention the fact you are tailgating in the ghetto. I like the fact that at GW they let you hang out after the show. At Jones Beach the cops are circling the parking lot PA's blaring 20 minutes after the concert is over and in Camden they recommend you leave for your own safety.

Re: Greatwoods, Tweeter, Comcast, FOXBORO MASS 2012!!!!
My opinion...
Why no sell out, just compare, it's definitely the ticket cost in this economy.
2012
Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Jake Owen at Gillette in August... $114.13 per person incl fee's etc. at the other end of the field. It has big screens so who cares. 4:30pm start
Parking $60.00, can tailgate there.
2011
Jimmy Buffett
Last June, section 10
$128.00 + $21.00 + $7.50 (marked on the ticket)+ 30 or 40 for the premium parking.
Starts at 8:00
I'll be at the show. I'm not complaining about the cost. I will be complaining about his retirement too soon for my liking. What will we be doing 5 years from now (or less).
Parrothead conventions that one of the nights a full concert will be shown on a big screen and that will be the Buffett concert for that year.
In a few short years watch for....
Jimmy Buffett's "You Had To Be There, The Video Collection 1974 - 201?"
Twenty-four hours of Jimmy's Greatest Live Performances on 6 two sided DVD's!
From Mailboat Records & Tapes & CD's & DVD's & VHS & Beta (somebody must still have one) & Lazer discs & downloads etc., etc., etc Available at all Margaritaville, hotel's, casino's, bar and grills, coffee shops, burger joints, shrimp joints, health clubs, Air Margaritaville terminals, mall kiosks!
Just no live shows anymore.
I would buy this also.

Reminds me of the places I've been.

makes me want to go back again."
