OK so I popped off in another thread.. I was part of the problem not part of the solution
Get over it.. that’s me sometimes
We have in the last few years had some issues (Big AZZ problems)
With parking lots/promoters/Mayors/cops… whoever.. (and the current trend is for someone to
Say SMOGDI (Some Other Guy Did It) :?
SO what do WE (yep all of us) do.. ?? how can the traveling team help the home team (s) ?
Shoreline, Concord.. those places have not supported Tailgating for years ( Contra Costa county code)
Vegas.. MSG.. Nashville.. have really no place to get the whole circus together
We gotta be OK with those places and adapt..
Houston a few year back was a challenge (Mega thanks to Phritz and Janice!!!!)
AND this is where I am Driving the bus.. not every place can be Alpine or Phrisco. Cincinnati (IMHO Chicago) INDY, ‘Dago to name a few.. . years past Great Woods.. Nissan.. Irvine
So now we have places that want the $$$ but not us.. or so it seems.. the Remoras that attach themselves to the landsharks that we are..
NOW WHAT??
Some thoughts… an Idear or three some will work some are pretty far fetched
1. Become the Promoters.. yep it’s far fetched.. and would require $$$ and Organization but it would work.. the Promoter has massive stroke , with the cops/the Mayor..the venue..
2. Find another place to play.. I do not in any way mean don’t go to your home venue.. I am more than aware that for some of us the Financial /family/time off strain is heavy just to go to the “home” venue let alone “hitting” the road.. what I mean is.. find an alternate party spot and hire shuttles/busses/cars/taxis/riverboats/trains to get there.. and back Hotel parking lots come to mind.. as do large bars..
3. (the hardest) just don’t go.. or have a nice day at home and show up one hour ahead of time buy water/soda/shirts and NOTHING else
4. Hit up a city council meeting or three.. get put on the agenda.. find a group spokes person and explain why the current rules are not in the best interest of all, (if you jump straight to idea 4 then explain just how much $$ can be lost if you take options 2 or 3 )
5. Contact the Promoter (not the Venue) and advise them of options 2-3 and how much $$$ is looking like it will be lost.. work with the PH clubs.. other web sites and friends.. after you set up the pre party advertise (if ya work it right, the hotel/bar will help with this)
6. Tired of “the crowd?” find out if the venue has a VIP area.. or best yet if they rent out the luxury boxes.
just some thoughts.. we have a year to plot.. because none of this will happen this tour..

Re: some thoughts to "solve" the parking lot issues
well sparky, i think i have the answer about why there is no tailgating at shoreline. during my last visit to shoreline to see tim mcgraw, i asked a couple of mountain views finest about the no tailgating policy. they reminded me that shoreline is built on an old land fill. therefore there is methane gas in the air.
so i guess that means doing any kind of grilling would blow everybody up. boom...boom..boom...
as for the no drinking policy. i dunno, no clue there. except maybe to force people to buy the over priced stuff shoreline sells.
listen to the stories i could tell

I re read the signs at Concord . (2 years ?) ago
and I remember that Shoreline has the same signs up.
Shore line was built on a landfill BUT that is not the reason
Bill fought and fought to get them to change the rule..

Re: some thoughts to "solve" the parking lot issues
After some of my experiences I can see why some venues are cutting back on tailgating (or eliminating it entirely)... For the most part the crowd is fairly well behaved, but there are a bunch of "idiots" that can and will ruin it for the rest of us
I think the key to solving the issues is to try in practice to ensure that venues are NOT making a mistake letting people tailgate:
1. Be courteous to others.
2. Be generous to others.
3. (Really important).... Clean up after yourselves in the tailgate preferably BEFORE you go into the venue, don't leave any trash around.
4. Pace yourself, (in my case I always stop after entering the venue and sober up a bit.).... don't overindulge.
For the most part, the Buffett crowd is experienced enough to be able to throw a responsible tailgate, let's not let others ruin a good time.

Re: some thoughts to "solve" the parking lot issues
At Shoreline, part of the problem stems from other concerts - particularly "hip hop" and urban - where tailgating degenerated into fights and shootings. This spilled over to the nearby Sports Page bar, where they lost their entertainment license and couldn't have live music for about five years.ragtopW wrote:Mason.. both are covered by county code for no tailgatingmason wrote:well sparky, i think i have the answer about why there is no tailgating at shoreline. during my last visit to shoreline to see tim mcgraw, i asked a couple of mountain views finest about the no tailgating policy. they reminded me that shoreline is built on an old land fill. therefore there is methane gas in the air.

Re: some thoughts to "solve" the parking lot issues
If the GUILTY parties were punished accordingly, and we'd quit worrying about their FEELINGS, most of the crap would stop.
After 25-plus years of attending Buffett concerts, I will say that HIS fans are generally more well behaved than others, and usually clean up after themselves, but, as is the case in ALL cases, you have the certain few that, by their second or third beer, profess to be God Allmighty, start fights, drunken brawls, and simply trash the place. These are the ones that need to be dealt with, their feelings be damned, and deep down, we all KNOW this is why certain venues are scaling back on tailgating, if not eliminating it altogether.

Shore line was built on a landfill BUT that is not the reason
Bill fought and fought to get them to change the rule..
BUT the rule was there in '92 for my first Buffett show..
I have been told by those that would know, that
the county Ord. was in place BEFORE shoreline got built
Bill Graham thought he could get the county code changed
But alas...
