This all happened after Sandusky was retired.

perhaps, but it wasn't like he went away and sat on park benches to feed the animals either. He was still spending time on campus, and the reports make it sound like he had access to the athletic facilities (either officially or not). And just reporting it to superiors and not following up on it, is a weak defense. It sounds like "so I saw this former Asst. raping a little boy in the shower, filled out Form 8891/S, and went on my way. Now, where is Form W-2217Y to get a light bulb in my office changed?"

This is as much a head hunting exercise as anything. If Joe was a janitor and reported this to his boss and his boss did nothing no one would be looking for a new janitor.
depends. I think they probably would tho.
I agree R2.......Paterno has tremendous power and influence on that campus. He wasn't in the position where he could lose his job if he reported what he found out to the proper authorities. This is about compliance and allowing a predator to continue with the abuse of children. I'm completely shocked he didn't say to the grad student "Let's call the school administration and tell them what you saw. Then we go to the police". :-?

At first I thought they would let him finish the season, but then you have a bowl game several weeks later and they wouldn't let him hang on that long. As fast as this is moving, I think you may be right. Saturday is a long way off right now.
I am not sure they can allow him to be on the sidelines this weekend. This story continues to grow, and the university must be seen as strong and decisive. Seeing Paterno would only send the wrong message, in my opinion, and I was a Paterno fan until this story broke last weekend. Last Saturday, as I watched football, this was a story in the crawl at the bottom of the screen. Now it is one of the lead stories on the national news. The university has to shut this down soon.

Chronicle of Higher Education is now reporting that the president is likely to be out in the next 24 hours.

News reports the PSU Board of Trustees are meeting tonight......Joe could be told to leave immediately along with the university President.

have a feeling that is the way it will go. think he made the announcement of the retirement as a last gasp of power: I am Joe Paterno, and I go when I say I go

Again, there is no way they could allow Paterno to be shown on the sidelines Saturday--absolutely the wrong message. This had to be done now.

CNN is showing the student protest. The reporter is saying that they need to realize this is about more than football. He's right.

This makes me sick.

If I was a family member of one of the individuals who was molested at Penn State, I would be livid at the student protests. Not doing anything is just as bad as standing there and taking videos.

The whole thing is gross but I find it incredible that McQueary, who actually witnessed an assault in progress...DIDN'T step in or intervene in the moment, e.g. WTH is going on, what are you doing? He witnessed it, left, told his father, and then went to Paterno...and HE is still employed?

Biggest scandal in sports. Makes SMU look insignificant. Paterno knew and looked the other way. Scumbag

A sports radio guy in Houston said he could not even read the whole grand jury report it was that disgusting

Exactly!!! How could you see a man sodomizing a 10 year old boy and leave without intervening? I would have subdued the creep and ensured the safety of the boy, then called 911 immediately. There is a whole lot of stench at PSU right now and I hope all involved in the cover-up/enabling get raked over the coals and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. This absolutely disgusts me and makes my skin crawl....

Ray Gricar, the prosecutor who declined to pursue charges against Sanduskey back when allegations first arose several years ago, disappeared shortly afterwards. His car was found abandoned. His laptop and hard drive had been tossed in the river and data was supposedly irretrievable. His home computer showed history of searching ways to destroy a laptop and hard drive...and he is just "gone".

If Sandusky had a position of power over the grad student, I could see where the grad student didn't do more than he did. Wrong for sure. He too should be fired.

I started to read the grand jury report and had to stop. SOOO many turned an eye to what this guy was doing.
