Hello all - I know we have some DirecTV people on this board. I've had it for the last two years and have loved it. I order the NFL Sunday Ticket every year (came free the first year), and I got it discounted last year.
Here is my issue - the "best deal ever" promotion that's going on now is fantastic and would save me a TON of money. It would also allow me to get the whole house DVR and get an additional receiver for my office, HBO,Max, and Showtime free for three months, Sunday Ticket and watch anywhere for free, etc. etc. etc.
When I contacted DirecTV yesterday, they said this deal is only available for new customers even though my contract expires in the next couple weeks. My question is would it be possible for me to get this deal? If not, could we create a new account under my wife's name and get this promotion? I'm finding it extremely disappointing that new customers would be able to get this package and I wouldn't be able to as a current customer. I would have no issue re-upping my contract for another two years.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Re: Need some DirecTV help
Have you tried threatening to leave if they don't give you the 'new member' pricing? Sad to say, but that normally works. Trying your wife's name (use her maiden name) might work. or letting the service laps a couple of weeks then getting it again.
Even Comcast, whom I consider the devil, will find a deal to cut you if you threaten to leave. That threat is all the more credible since your contract is about to expire. Make mention of that fact that new customers get a break and existing customers, ready to resign for two more years, get nothing and that you'll be taking your business elsewhere. The worst that will get you is a no.

Re: Need some DirecTV help
This didn't work for us. We had DirecTV but with receivers for standard TV's. We were nearing the end of our 2 year contract and purchased a high-def TV and wanted to upgrade our service. They wanted to charge us over $200 for new equipment plus installation fees because we now needed high-def stuff. I argued that they give the equipment free to new customers. I had no problem agreeing to pay the extra monthly fees for upgraded service, but refused to pay for the new equipment. They refused even after threatening to switch to DishNetwork so we could get the free equipment. We talked to several different people at DirecTV and they would not budge. So we switched to DishNetwork and cancelled DirecTV. It wasn't until after we actually cancelled that they wanted to deal. It was too late then and we are happy DishNetwork customers now.maid memories wrote:Have you tried threatening to leave if they don't give you the 'new member' pricing? And I'm not trying to get rid of my DirecTV. I love it! I just want my NFL Sunday Ticket without paying 300-400 dollars and get a comparable offer to new subscribers. The deal they're offering is really awesome. If I'm not under contract anymore, why not honor a deal for new subscribers and I'll even sign up for another two years?
They're even offering free NFL Sunday Ticket if you move. It's like they're trying to give it away to everyone except the people who have had it for years.

Re: Need some DirecTV help
I just got off the phone with DirecTV - in a fight.... Waiting for a NEW not refurbished DVR.... but....to you question
WORK A DEAL!!!! Last week when I called about our reiever going bad in the living room, they offered me the following:
Free standard DVR ($99) and installation ($49)
$10 off a month programing for one year
$5 off a month programing for two years
(two above does not effect any promtions along the way)
$7 off a month for the DVR service for one year
No threatening needed - just call and ask - what is the best deal you can give me to stay?!

Good luck!!!!
DirecTV is okay....nothing big to complain about until you have to talk to customer service

Re: Need some DirecTV help
I was with DirecTv for years. I loved the service, the helpful attitude and the ease of working with them however my bill kept creeping up every six months. The package that I originally got at $19.99 was now costing me in excess of $79.99. Then one day a guy from Dish stopped by, offered me the same package for $9.99 a month for the first 6 months and then it went up to $29.99 a month for the next 18 months. I took his card and told him I would think about it. The next day I received a notice that they were upping the rate by another $5.00 and I decided that it was getting out of hand. I called, spoke with a very nice young man who told me that the only thing he could do was knock $5.00 a month off for 12 months. When I pointed out that I could switch to Dish and over the next two years spend about $540 or I could take his offer and spend about $1800 for the same product. I asked him if there was anything else he could do so that I wouldn't have to switch. He indicated that there wasn't anything he could do nor would DirecTv offer me a better deal as long as I was at the same address. I told him to that I was done and to turn off the service because it wasn't worth that much more to me.
I didn't rush out and sign up for Dish however within 2 weeks, I started receiving a letter every day from DirecTv, offering me the same package, plus a DVR for $29.99 a month. That was about a year ago. I'm still getting the offers but I've come to the conclusion that I wasn't really watching the TV anyway, so why pay for it.
You may want to try the approach of canceling and not renewing for a few weeks. She what they are willing to offer to entice you back.

Re: Need some DirecTV help
Yeah, I'm kinda ticked that new customers get FREE FOR LIFE HD for our DISH service. I could save over $100 a year if I could get that. I guess the only way is to keep switching back and forth from Dish to DirectTV. Threatening to leave doesn't seem to work. With our bill, they would lose $120 every month. Probably a drop in the bucket to them.
