Press Release:

Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns, the new album from acclaimed songwriter John Hiatt, will be released August 8th on New West Records. This is Hiatt’s 20th solo album and follows his acclaimed 2010 release, The Open Road, which the Los Angeles Times heralded as a “bluesy, heartland-soaked musical excursion,” while the Buffalo News declared it “a classic for the future”. Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns was recorded at Ben’s Studio in Nashville and was produced by Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, The Black Crowes). In addition to Hiatt, the album features Kenneth Blevins on drums and percussion, Doug Lancio on electric guitars, mandolin and Hammertone and Patrick O’Hearn on bass guitar.

Finally, after many years, John Hiatt has "officially" recorded his classic "Train To Birmingham" & included it on his new release.

I heard Chip Robinson (ex-Backsliders) perform it at The Brewery in Raleigh, NC during a concert billed as "Ryan Adams & Friends" (that also included Caitlin Cary and Kenny Roby) back in '99. I knew it was a John Hiatt tune but didn't know he'd never recorded it. Coincidentally, The Brewery is being demolished on August 1st. It nearly closed down for good back in 2004 but opened under new management. The new folks catered more to the death metal/thrash crowd rather the rock n' roll/alt.country one so I haven't stepped foot in the place since. Still, it will be sad to see it go. They're going to tear down that entire block on Hillsborough Street to make way for a Kerr Drugs flagship store.

He played the title cut at the Dallas show with Lyle Lovett. I liked it. Hoping to get a copy and an interview with him.

Kevin Welch & Peter Cooper have also recorded great versions of "Train To Birmingham".
