Airlines due to REFUND your tax?

Post by karat »

Not a 100% what this is about, but worth checking in to!

Air travelers may qualify for a small tax refund
Airlines still charging levy after U.S. stopped collecting it, but how to apply is murky

If you bought an airline ticket on or before July 22 for travel, either domestic or international, starting July 23 don’t throw out your receipt. You may be due up to $60 in a tax refund.

Don't hold your breath waiting for it. They'll find some way to weasel out of it, especially since the FAA strike/lockout/shutdown/whatevertheheckitwas has been settled.

I thought many of the airlines increased their fares the same amount as the tax was? If that's the case, they never collected it so they sure won't be refunding any amount.

all true... but if you had anything from 7/22 (or whatever the date was) until they came back, could be a refund....

Worth 20 mins and a stamp....right?

Why would they?
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you applied on the Delta website prior to midnight August 8th, you could receive your refund of the Federal excise tax of 7.5% and the $3.70 per take off fee charged on all domestic flights. If your flight was to/from Alaska or Hawaii or international destinations, then the amount of the refund would differ. Now that the taxes have been reinstated, I'm not sure that you will see any refunds.

I also believe that any tax refunds were for that narrow window between when the Teabaggers let the FAA shut down most operations during their whizzing match and the reinstatement of the tax. I don't believe there was any plan to issue tax refunds prior to the defunding/lapse in funding.

Never hurts to check or ask...as far as I know it was on or before july or June 22/23 up to when they went back.

Well-hell the government is giving everyone else money, might as well get in line!
