Misses Golfer (who doesn't golf) and I are thinkig of a quick 4-5 day trip down to Bermuda in September. We like tiny/boutique hotels and beach shack bars. Any suggestions? I hear horseshoe beach is awesome. Mega resorts loaded with kids aren't our speed. With a 3 yeard old and 9 month old at home we need to go limin. Any thought are greatly appreciated.

It's been a few years since I was down there but here is what I remember:
1. All beaches are great. The water is awesome.
2. I don't know what you consider mega-resort. There are big hotels but there are some smaller ones as well. You can probably google Bermuda hotels and get a list of all types (like at http://www.bermuda4u.com/Hotels/bermuda ... rview.html). I seem to remember the bigger hotels have beach access and the smaller ones don't. The bigger hotels have bars on the beach since they are the ones with beach access. You might have a hard time finding a small beach shack bar since there isn't as much beach available as in the states. In Hamilton (the capital), there was a bar or two that had that beach feeling; the main drag isn't long so you can easily pop your head in and check them out. There was one bar at the end of the strip that was an British type place. I can't remember the name of it but if you go, I can try to find it on a map.
3. Where you bringing the kids or not? I couldn't tell.

Most of the time I was working so I didn't really go out much. Pretty much Hamilton for work, Hamilton for dinner and back to the hotel for sleep.

I've been to Bermuda 3 times......a beautiful place & wonderful people.

I've always stayed at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess resort so I can't advise you on smaller accomodations, but here at some web sites that should help:

Just be advised that all things in Bermuda (lodging, food, etc.) are expensive giving that everything must be imported. But with some research you should be able to plan a visit within any budget.

Agree that beach bars are hard to come by in Bermuda (although I think Elbow Beach has one), but two fun places are Flanagan's Irish Pub and Hog Penny in Hamilton.

Ah yes. Now, it's been a few years (and a few beers); it the Hog Penny the one right next to Baracuda (the restuarante)? And is Flanagan's the one all the way down Front Street? They have the open seating out front.
*Nope - thinking about another Irish pub.
