Jimmy's Quote in Cincinnati.....

I was reading about JB's show in Cincinnati last night that was here on the BN main page.

The article had the following quote from Jimmy: “Look, I’m 64,” he said. “I don’t give a (damn) anymore.”

I must admit that particular quote is somewhat disturbing to me. Not sure why and I certainly don't know in what context Mr. Buffett said it. But I still found it rather odd...... [smilie=huh-ani.gif]

Does anyone here on BN have any further insight about the circumstances that led up to this declaration????

It was actually "I don't give a sh**". :pirate:
In the intro to Grapefruit Juicy Fruit, Jimmy was teasing Doyle about mortal sin. Just Jimmy being Jimmy, nothing to see here, move along folks.

He probably meant he doesn't give a s*** that you can't tailgate at the Lube anymore. He's still getting paid.

I'm almost looking forward to the skewering that's going to go on if he doesn't pull a Kid Rock and lambaste the venue during the show. Which, while I totally agree with the sentiment, is kind of like sh*tting where you eat. I think a lot of what is happening at my job is wrong and unfair at the moment and so do many of my co-workers but we don't stand in the middle of the lobby and say so.

I'm kind of hoping he doesn't say anything. You buy a ticket to a concert, the only thing you're entitled to is admission to the concert. You don't get an all day party for the price of admission. And it would be a little hypocritical if he takes the same tack as Kid Rock and breaks the Lube's balls for being greedy considering the prices he charges for some of his inferior quality products. Yes, I'm talking about you Landshark Lager.

I don't necessarily expect him to bust their balls, but I do kind of expect him to acknowledge it even in just a passing comment. It's become too big of a deal around here and he's the centerpiece for the argument against it. For him to ignore it 100% would, to me, be like saying he doesn't give a sh!t that you didn't get the experience he's known for, even if you're not "entitled" to anything more than a concert.

I don't think I'd read too much into it. It sounded like an "I don't give a sh*t what people think about what I do," not an "I don't give a sh*t about anything." :)

That's exactly what I thought when I heard it. It came off funny as he!l over the radio and the crowd seemed to love it too. I couldn't believe the way that reporter skewered it.

Honestly, as I had said before, those who bought tickets for the show in Bristow and complaining that they can't tailgate, ll I am going to say is that you deserve it. The policy has always been there and wasn't enforced until now. You bought the ticket and are to agree to the policy of the venue. If you don't like it, tough s***.

I've gotta disagree. I think they have every right to complain. Several venues have policies about tailgating and alcohol consumption in the parking lot (who hasn't taken a picture under one of those signs, beer in hand) Yes, you can enjoy a Buffett concert without a tailgate (or even sober as I did earlier this year in Virginia Beach), but the tailgate and the parking lot scene is definitely part of the fun of going to a show at an outdoor venue.

If he comes back to Bristow next year and you buy a ticket, you have no reason to complain. But if you bought a ticket months in advance and they decide to enforce the policy (which is based on $$$), you can certainly complain and boycott the concessions (which I have been doing since beer hit $7 several years ago.

True, but one should have known the policy before buying the ticket. That's the point. Just because it wasn't enforced before doesn't mean it will not in the future. I think the 49'ers vs. Raiders game will cause a lot of venues to restrict these tailgating.

True, I'm sure JB has never been misquoted in the past.......

We jokingly say that we do not want our local newspaper to ever do any article about us......they never get their information right!!!!! :pirate:

maybe its in the context of a shorter show that is still filled with brown eyed girl and a horrid version of southern cross(which he honestly can't sing anymore).... and as far as the lube show, he doesnt have to say anything except to eliminate it from his places to play in virginia. that would make sense if he cared about it that much. i mean lets face it, he doesnt play numerous places for one reason or another.

Ravi, think about this, for YEARS Great Woods policy has been no alcohol, no tailgating and for years they've ignored it. What makes you think that any of us who regularly attend that show would NOW pay attention to what's on the website. I'd venture a guess you couldn't find anyone in that parking lot last year who even thought about calling the venue to see if they still would be turning a blind eye to tailgating and drinking. This came out of left field for these people just as it would if GW suddenly decided to shut us down without making a major announcement such as "Hey folks, we know we've allowed it in the past but we just want you to know that it's over, and we're serious" To just print it on the tickets once your money was spent is pretty sneaky. At the very least they should have made a point of it on the website as opposed to having it buried in the same place it's been for all the years they allowed it.

I can do without this condescending attitude towards my stupidity
for buying a ticket to Saturday's show with the expectations that
I would more or less enjoy the same experience that I have had in
every previous Nissan/JLL show for the past 16 years.

For 16 years and over two dozen shows, the TicketMaster/Live Nation/Venue websites
have stated things like "no alcohol" .... "no open fires or grills" .... "parking lots open at 4:00pm".

For 16 years tailgating has been allowed with reasonable and understandable enforcement
of open container laws, underage drinking and public intoxication.

For 16 years traffic has been a nightmare but the lots did in fact begin opening
shortly after 12:00 noon and thus a staggered arrival
helped in some small manner to alleviate the congestion.

Police presence was cordial and friendly, the cops shared laughs and ice water
offered to them on scorching summer days. They did their jobs when required to
stop public drunkeness, underage drinking and open containers. Other than that,
they enjoyed the festival of fun and tailgate setups almost as much us we did.

This year ..... after Live Nation accepted my money, the message of changes in
enforcement policies began to slowly trickle out. The only difference at the beginning
from any previous years was the two words "NO TAILGATING" printed on some
(but not all) hard tickets themselves. The website messages offered no indication
what exactly this meant.

Only in the weeks and months that followed
have we come to understand
that this means that
immediately upon arrival
"one" must vacate the parking lots
and be herded to the outside of the gates to await their opening.

No chairs, no grills, no canopies, no drinks, no loitering,
no visiting or waiting by your cars for other friends to arrive.
Exit immediately and go to the gates. We'll open them
at a designated time to be determined later.
"One" has only learned of this strict definition
of the two simple words
"NO TAILGATING"
well after the tickets were sold.

This policy change was not communicated until after tickets were sold.
This policy change apparently was not communicated to the artists themselves
as evidence by Kid Rock's on stage comments
and Jimmy Buffett's comments a few weeks ago.

"One" has every right to be p***ed off.

Not sure how this thread turned into yet another thread about Bristow but since I am "part" of Bristow I will respond here.

Having made our virgin trip to GW this year, based alot on what we've seen on the boards about the venue and having met a few BNers (Tam, Dave, Jack, Stacie, Barb) last year at Camden, we decided to take a 4-day vacation to Great Woods & Boston. To say we would have been very upset to have driven 8.5 hours (yep, that's not a typo) only to find out that we could not tailgate with GW "veterans" would be a mis-statement. The collective horror expressed by our huge caravan when the large part of Tam's deck was turned away was unbelievable. Imagine that horrer magnified by many Buffett virgins who are expecting a "Great Woods" experience at Bristow who won't have the chance. To say they (or any of us who bought tickets) should have known better, well, I can't even find the words to express my dismay :(
