The hits just keep coming, kids.
Guess we will just have to wait and see where Nate goes
It needs to hit closer to Texas, like between Corpus and Galveston.
Yes, but we have to be careful what we wish for.
We don't want flooding like other parts of the country

Texas needs the rain though. The reservoirs are drying up, some towns are close to having NO water.
I know

It looks like Nate is going into Mexico so we probably will not get a drop of rain.
But a DC-10 is getting ready to dump a load of fire retardant on the tri-county fire.

The models are all showing him going into Mexico.
Texas just can't get a break this year.
And our weather guy just said La Nina will last at least until next year

This morning we could smell the smoke from a fire that broke out about 20 miles north of us, burning over 250 acres. It is about 80% contained at this time. I cannot imagine what it is like for those near the Bastrop area. I am praying for the victims, firefighters, volunteers, etc. and also hoping and praying for rain very soon!

Montgomery County Wildfire Info
Fire has jumped 1486 around the Crown Ranch area. The winds have shifted to the Northeast. Fire is rapidly moving towards the downtown Magnolia area. I don't have latest evac orders YET, but if you think you are in the line of danger LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. ~cm

When I was in NYC last night, the news ticker on one of the office building had a story about the hot summer in Texas. It said the average temperature from June through August set an all-time record, I think it was 86.9.

Kinda.
But a fire would have to really work at getting across the Woodlands Mall and 8 lanes of I45. Yes, it could happen, but I'm hoping it would be stopped before that.....
However, I'm listening to the scanner to keep track

There is Magnolia and then what they call Magnolia but is more of the Woodlands. The fire is kind of sorta between the two.
To kind of give you some idea, think of the fire like this..
1488 runs east and west. 1774 runs north and south. 1488 and 1774 intersect in downtown Magnolia. 1486 starts about 1 mile north of 1488 off 1774. it is like a road that runs at a 45 degree angle between 1488 and 1774. The new fire is in the section below 1486 and above 1488.
My folks live about 5 miles south of downtown Magnolia off 1774. They have been getting smoke and ash today. It was the first time since it broke out they have seen the stuff on the ground. Smoke has been everyday though. My aunt and uncle live off 1488 between Magnolia and the Woodlands.
You just never know what a fire will do. Both my folks and my aunt and uncle are prepared to get out fast if they need to do it.
One of my friends is fighting the fire in Magnolia. His department was moved there last night. The plane they have brought in will really help.
Driving back from Kingsville today, the smoke around Bastrop is MUCH better.
I've been to 3 of the 4 edges of the state in the last 3 weeks. It is really dry all over. Kingsville was actually the greenest of all the locations I visited.

We got back from eating across the freeway from the Woodlands Mall and the smoke is really thick behind the mall area.

Not sure about Bastrop fires, but Tri-Counties fire is still burning. They are saying it might take 2 more weeks to get it totally out IF everything goes well.
However, more fires are popping up.
They are using the DC 10 and blackhawk helicopters to dump water and fire retardant. But when they do, small fires break out from the spreading embers.
Report on scanner about a family with 18 tiki torches burning around their pool....neighbors turned them in.
