40,000 acres in Northeast Texas and it's still not 100% contained.

I think they said on the news the other night that the fires have burned the same amount of land as the entire state of CT (or Rhode Island). That is kind of scary thought.

My family is all ok.

Thank you to the firefighters!!!

19 new fires in Harrison and Rusk counties (south of us) have scorched 1,099 acres.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Enough already.

Our guys are exhausted ... they have nothing left ... a relative of a co-worker was called out THREE TIMES during a family reunion. She said he looked like a skeleton.

Yes. Chip and I have talked about it recently. We're 15 minutes away from this one ... but a blaze could break out at any time in town ... it's so scary. We have a great fire department, but as dry as things are, even a great fire department can't do much to stop the destruction.

Yipes. Yipes. Yipes.

Molly. There's no rain in the forecast and they're saying fall and winter are going to be dry. What on earth is going to happen now that so many old, established trees have died? I mean, dead. Not coming back. It will take thousands of dollars to cut them down ... and if you can't afford do have it done, then do you just wait for the thing to fall on your house? Our trees are okay, so far, as we've watered all summer, but what about the people who have let their big trees die? There are magnolias all over Sulphur Springs that are brown. They're such solid trees. What kind of destruction will they do when they finally fall over?

We've upped our insurance ... house and contents. :o

((Texas friends))

I'm so worried about you guys. What a disaster! All the trees (and birds and other critters that depend on them)

I'm afraid I'd have the car packed if I lived there.

Maybe somewhere, but not that I've heard about.

Our Weather guy said Hurricane Ike was 3 years ago and we haven't had any rain to speak about since then.
3 years.

Some places got a little rain, but nothing to speak of ... and the wind dried it up quickly. It's overcast, but still scary dangerous re: risk of wild fires. It's hard to believe this is the green place I grew up in. It's all brown now.

What's scary is the number of douchebags that throw cigarettes out the car window in that tinderbox!!! I completely freaked out when I saw that.
