Alex Harvey
Being someone that's always paid close attention to liner notes and such, years ago I picked up on "Makin' Music For Money" being written by Alex Harvey. Around the same that I got A1A I also picked up a copy of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock by Nick Logan and Bob Woffinden which included an entry for Alex Harvey, a Scottish musician who was most well known for his tenure in the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. For years and years I've always believed they were one and the same. That is, until I was reading some threads over at the Steve Hoffman forum over the weekend that mentioned that Alex Harvey had written a number of songs, most notably "Delta Dawn", that had been covered by other artists. Kenny Rogers also covered a few of his tunes, three of which appear on The Gambler (including "Makin' Music For Money"). I knew that Kenny Rogers had covered "Makin' Music For Money" because I'd seen him perform it on a show called Rollin' On the River back in the 70s. It wasn't until reading that thread that I finally realized there were two Alex Harveys (the Scottish Alex Harvey passed away from a heart attack in 1982). For anyone interested in learning more about the American songwriter Alex Harvey, you can check out his website here.

Re: Alex Harvey
Anyone else mistake the two or was that just me?
