James Taylor's original version of Carolina In My Mind

...from James Taylor's 1969 debut record on Apple records. This is not the version re-recorded for his 1976 greatest hits album.

I personally love the strings and the beat and banter on this version.

here is the thread about Buffett covers we did a few years ago, so the list has changed some. There were more than 115 songs at the time that were sold commercially. There are lots more that were never recorded commercially that Jimmy has covered in shows and appearances, etc.

The videos at the millennium concert are a scream. Actually have a video of the concert. I was there and frankly the concert was a letdown. I guess my expectation were a little bit high. Expected more for that special evening and the associated ticket price. The concert fell way short of a normal concert.

The songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman were responsible for some of the greatest pop hits of the 50's and 60's including "A Teenager In Love" for Dion & The Belmonts, "Save The Last Dance For Me" and "This Magic Moment" for The Drifters, and several hits for Elvis including "Suspicion", "Surrender", and this number, "Viva Las Vegas", written for the 1964 film of the same name starring Elvis and Ann Margret.

Jimmy and the Coral Reefers and the latest version of Viva Las Vegas on October 15

It's Jimmy covering Mac's The City during the Millenium concert, Dec 31, 1999. Barely 12 years ago, but JB"s in long (bright yellow!) pants and sneakers, Mac is wearing bright orange pants and still has his loooong hair :o , Fingers blasting away on the harp, Peter on guitar. Doesn't look like Mac was with the band full time yet since after the song they're resetting the mic for (looks like) Fingers. (Course it may just have been that Mac was brought forward for that song; I can't remember when he started full time with the CRB).

Thank god Jimmy stopped wearing outfits like this one. It makes him look like he is 4' 2" instead of 5' 8". [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif]

Did anyone else notice that he played Southern Cross AND Glory Days as the first encore last night in Vegas?

Maybe he does read the boards...

If he does, Hi Jimmy!!

Gulf Coast Highway:

Nanci has re-recorded it several times, but I like this original version best; it's from her album "Little Love Affairs". That's Mac McAnally on the other half of the duet.

Such wonderful imagery in this song. Written by James Hooker, Nanci Griffith, and Danny Flowers. Some nice dobro playing by Lloyd Green

And the closing song with Tonight I Just Need My Guitar from the 2007 Bama Breeze Tour-In My Room-Original by The Beach Boys from Surfer Girl album in 1963

I was pleasantly surprised when Jimmy and the girls and some of the Coral Reefers did this in Houston at Minute Maid Park. I don't think RM played it "live" that day. I think it got better and better as the tour progressed.
