You'll have a great time. I went to Atlanta years ago and it was a blast.NewToTheForum wrote:Okay, so here's the apparent answer for the original question:
I'm crushed that GW looks like it's going to be on a weekend when I have to work, but overjoyed to see reliable rumors this morning that Atlanta is June 9th, because I do not have to work that weekend, and Atlanta is where the birthday girl lives, and it would allow me to fly down there on a Delta award points (just barely) and not have to spring for a lodging, making it (by a long shot) the most affordable venue.
So, even tho no one mentioned Atlanta among the best JB venues, it just might have to be the best venue for us for this particular birthday.
I really loved the sound of Frisco, GW and Red Rocks, and am sorry to miss out on those. Maybe next year?
A bright spot about Atlanta is that with me having almost zero travel expense, I can buy more tickets and take more friends to help her celebrate the big birthday.
Thanks for the help, everyone.
If you can go to only ONE concert, where?

I knew this girl made of memories and phrases, who lived her whole life in both chapters and stages.
Danced 'til the dawn, wished all her worries away.
She's a long way from a West Nashville grand ballroom gown.

The best answer that I saw was the one that said "wherever most of your friends are."
That being said (and I know I'm late to this conversation and apparently whatever job you have is more important than your summer fun) Great Woods is the spot to see him. Disregarding your "East coast" limitation, people will say that Cincinnati is the bomb, and yeah it's great. People will say Frisco, and no I haven't been there, but it sounds like they're super friendly to the tailgate experience but it's very spread out. People will say Alpine, and no I haven't been there and based on what I've been hearing the last few years it's not what it was.
So, all that being said, here's why I love Great Woods. First of all, it's a great venue. The one knock against it (above the same knock on other places-overpriced beer, not enough toilets) is that they built this section of seats in the lawn to try and gouge more money out of people, which shrank the lawn too much. And here are hard cold facts: Jimmy's played Great Woods more than any other venue in his history (not including early day bars he'd have five a week at) and no one has played Great Woods more than him. (A venue outside of a major city that has a large population within a 50 mile radius.) I remember back in the day when the "Labor day" show was a four day stand there.
I've seen him a lot of places, and I've always had a great time. I go to shows at this point to see my friends who will be there.
That being said, I don't make my summer travel plans to leave Key West and see my family until Great Woods is announced...

Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

I'll get lucky one summer and GW will be on a date I don't have to work.
