There is basically one road that goes back into town from the airport. Can you imagine 15,000 people trying to walk back into town on that road dodging golf carts? Add to the fact most will have consumed large amounts of drinks. I also have a hard time believing they would be able to shut down the airport. Yes, ferries can bring the goods needed that time of year, but some residents fly in for the weekends. There is also the issue of very limited medical resources. Any injury has to be air lifted to a hospital or put on a ferry. Then, there is the question of how everyone will get there and leave after the concert. For example, the largest Jet Express only holds 395 passengers. Miller ferries can hold up to 500. I have a vision of tents set up all over the airport. lol
Oh, come on Shaker...haven't you been there when it felt that way anyway. I was just when we were younger and didn't give a S***. Can't count the times I fell asleep on my backpack and beach bag and missed at least 3 ferries cuz I was too hungover to wake up. lol. Some of my worst sunburns were sleeping through ferry runs. HAHAHA.

It would have to be a surprise visit, for sure. Maybe an hour set at the Beer Barrel, Jimmy?
Beer Barrel sucks. Roundhouse all the way , with my friend the Killer Flamingos
As many hours as I love spending in the Roundhouse, they'd have to limit tickets to 200 people. lol. Maybe he needs to play AT the airport or on the grounds of the Perry monument. There is NO indoor venue there that could possiblty keep their walls intact for a Bubba concert.

Oh I know, every summer weekend feels like that. Now add 15,000 extra people to that mix. I'm still young and carefree. :) I had a wake-up call 2 years ago (ironically the same weekend in question) when we woke up to a young man passed out in bed with my 2 yr old & 6 yr old. When we tried to get him off of the boat, he took swings at us and demanded it was his boat. He ended up being charged with trespassing and a few other charges. He could have easily smothered my baby with his drunk a##. Had he got off the boat and moved along like we asked him to, we wouldn't have called the cops. He had passed out earlier in the park, which is illegal now. They shove them all down to the Jet dock, as it is legal to sleep on their dock. He didn't have a boat, just drunk and high enough to think he did. That same weekend we watched 4 more guys get on boats that weren't theirs and demand the owners get off "their" boats when they had come over on the jet. Before I get flamed for having my kids there on a weekend, my kids spend weeks at a time there on my parents boat just like I did growing up. Unfortunately, the clientele has changed from the times of the fun, loving, happy drunks (like us) to the younger crowd who like to fight and take things too far. There are still the happy drunks, but are out numbered by the younger crowd.

Shaker, you're absolutely right. And, like you, my kids spent many a lovely week at PIB when they were younger. Things have just gotten uglier everywhere over the past few years. My beach sleepin' backpackin' days were long ago and far way. If I fell asleep on my beach bag now waiting for the ferry, they'd have to send in the EMTs just to get me on my feet...stone sober. hehehe

haha there it is the "new crowd" of youngsters s*** and are ruining it. You do know that every person at some time says that when they get older and then try to hang around the same places they use to. The drunks are the same as when you were younger, sorry but your just older and changed.

Nothing wrong with getting older but you have to realize that you change all the way too

MSU maybe you missed where I said I am still young. :D I know what you are trying to say, but the increase each year in violence on the island says differently. (including the murder this year) Yes, there have always been people who get on the wrong boats, but would move along when asked to- not throw punches at you. I'm not saying all of the clientele is bad, but there are more fights happening. Maybe I have just started being in the wrong place at the wrong time to witness more violence. Who knows!

There is some news. Lets put it this way, the asking price/performance fee is well over 7 digits. Everything else is  . So, unless the price comes down, or something else is worked out, it won't happen. But, keep the faith, hang on to that res, for now.

I just dont know how from a logistics standpoint anyone would think this would work. The man power involved in something like this would be way out of PIB capabilities. You would have to manage all of the boats coming in plus the normal people coming in via Jet Express or Miller Ferry.

Then you have to get these people off of the island if they dont have a place to stay in the evening......how would you even do that??

It would be a complete disaster.

As of right now, the concert is off. Jimmy Buffett will not be at the island in August.

Never really thought that was much of a possibilty. If he plays in the OHio/michigan area at a non-major shed outside ever again it will be a big festival type of thing like Rothbury or Common ground in Lansing, or the now defunct Muskegon summer fest. (common ground could never afford him even though right on the grand river would be awesome, and Rothbury might never come back)

Well with that date off the table and Cincy August 2nd. I imagine Cuoyahoga Falls or DTE gets PIB's date now.
