We spent one day in St. Criox while visiting St. Thomas for a week a couple of years ago. Our day was interrupted by a sudden shift in the the direction that Hurricane Omar took so our time was limited. We were guests of some friends who live on island, so they were our guides. We arrived in St. Croix on Columbus Day morning via seaplane. Our host took us to a nice open air restaurant in Christiansted for breakfast. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but its right in the harbor area next to where the seaplanes come in. Good food! While eating, I met Bill Bass, a famous steel drum player who had noticed my Buffett tour shirt. We sat and talked about Robert Greenidge and his experiences with him. Our hosts drove us around the island including a stop at the Buccaneer Resort. First class! You will note that there are some cone shaped brick structures located there. These are sugar cane mills from the old days. We took a drive up to Point Udall, the Eastern Most Point of the USA. Next to the monument, there are some cliffs where you can walk down to the beach. Breathtaking views. We then drove through the second largest oil refinery in the world. We stopped along the way to catch some great views of Buck Island. A trip there was on our schedule but Omar changed our plans. Everything I have read about Buck Island makes it a definite must do while your there especially if you are a diver/snorkeler. We headed back to Christiansted for lunch at Rum Runners. Great harbor front bar and restaurant. The seaplane company ceased all flights due to the impending storm, so we had to catch a late five seater flight back to St. Thomas before the storm arrived. We wish we had had more time on island. We hope you enjoy your trip.

That's Angry Nate's. It's also great for a refreshing afternoon fruity rum drink!!
Also don't miss the Ft. Christian Brew Pub, just down the boardwalk (toward the fort, not surprisingly!). GREAT selection of micro-brews and good relaxing atmosphere next to the water. good people-watching and sunset photos (but modest food).
Rum Runners is good for all 3 meals - and watching the crabs scamper under the tables near your toes!!

St. Croix is an under-rated gem that will blossom just as soon as the economy recovers.

I haven't been back to the island in over 20 years. I spent many a winter vacation plus a few extra weeks here and there during my youth on the island as that was where my grandparents spent their winters. I can't recommend any bars or restuarants, but I can tell you this, that the reef just off shore from The Buccaneer is well worth the swim, so is any Buck Island tour. The snorkeling is world class.

I plan on getting back there next year for a half Ironman race and to show my kids the sights and sounds of my childhood that made me a Parrothead before I even knew about a guy named Buffett.
