You know what they say. The Cubs won't win anything as long as Tony Romo's the QB for the Cowboys :P

Nationals manager says Strasburg's season is over

WASHINGTON (AP) — Stephen Strasburg's season is over after the Washington Nationals decided to shut down the ace right-hander following a shaky start against the Miami Marlins.

Manager Davey Johnson made the announcement Saturday morning, citing the effect of the media attention surrounding the impending shutdown on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft.

"I just told Stephen that his year is over. He's had a great year. I know what he's growing through," Johnson said. "The media hype on this thing has been unbelievable. I feel it's as hard for him as it would be anybody to get mentally, totally committed in the ballgame. And he's reached his innings limit. So we can get past this and talk about other things for a change."

Johnson said Strasburg was "emotional" about the decision to end his season immediately.

In their 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, N.Y. Yankee DH Alex Rodriguez homered in the 8th inning, giving him 300 home runs as a Yankee, thus making the Yankees the first team in history to have six players homer at least 300 times for one team.
The other Yankee players are:
Babe Ruth (659 homers)
Mickey Mantle (536 homers)
Lou Gerhig (493 homers)
Joe DiMaggio (361 homers)
Yogi Berra (358 homers)

TBS is using Bruce Springsteen's Land of Hope and Dreams as music for their playoff telecasts. I love that song, and they are going to totally ruin it for me by playing cheesy music videos every half inning. Nobody can beat something into the ground like TBS sports. :-?

Can you smell the desperation of the Astros? They are in talks with Clemens to bring him back for some of the last games.

I was listening to sports radio when I was in the car and they had an interesting statistic about how poorly the Mets have payed lately. Since the All-Star break back in July, both the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals have won more games at Citi Field than the Mets. Their home record in the last 2 months is 4-22. :o

I can't believe the Yankees and Red Sox played a NINE INNING game last night that actually took less than five hours.

How about those Orioles? Just swept Tampa Bay by winning two consecutive games
by a score of 3-2. Today it took 14 innings. This season they have won 13 extra
inning games in a row and are 16-1 in their last 17 games decided by 1 run. :pirate:
