Not a bad Top Ten but there's so many more I can think of than what Paste included.

The Cher episode comes to my mind as better than at least 5 of those.

I was never a fan of Sonny or Cher but the episode where they reunited on his show was pretty cool as I remember their variety show which aired more years ago than I care to recall. I'm also really surprised the Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler incident didn't make the cut. It was obviously staged but it certainly was the subject of lots of water cooler talk back when it first happened. Then there were the musical moments such as Warren Zevon's final performances as well as R.E.M.'s debut on network television during a time when "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" was "too new to be named".

Yes the reunion was cool. Dave asked Cher why she never wanted to come on the show...she responded something along the line of "I heard you were an A***hole"

Can't believe I forgot Lawler/Kaufman

I always liked his filler stuff with chris elliott and his oddities. The velcro suit, the alka seltzer suit, suit of magnets, rice krispie suit. He was definitely better before he got all political and stuff.

I would absolutely agree with the comments about the Sonny & Cher episode, and Warren Zevon's last appearance.

I also thought his first show after 9/11 was masterful in dealing with the tragedy that had occurred, and the struggle Letterman had in trying to entertain, and find some humor in life.
