Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt Unplugged - Pensacola 3/25

We are going to see these two greats at the intimate Saenger Theater in Pensacola, Fl. on Sunday, March 25th. John Hiatt is definitely on my musical bucket list. We don't get too many of these performances in this neck of the woods. Has anyone seen them perform together? YouTube has a few videos and they sound great. Just looking for a little feedback as to what to expect from an unplugged show.

You are in for SUCH a treat. Saw them at the Meyerson in Dallas last fall. Amazing night of music. I felt like I was in their living room. The swapped songs and stories all night long.

We saw them in Vegas last June, also unplugged, and had one of the BEST nights of our lives. We were there for work and thought it would be cool to see them since we knew a few songs of each of theirs. Tickets were cheap and we thought it would be a nice way to spend the evening. Boy were we BLOWN AWAY by their performances! They are both so talented and really entertaining. They didn't have a preset set list, they just feed off each other and really have a great rapport. We couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces for several days. What a PHANTASTIC show!

WOW!!!!! Thanks SO MUCH for the heads up guys! We just got our tix too, Row S. Can't believe we get to see them in our neck of the woods. And this will be a great way to start Buffett week!!

What a great review ETP! We enjoyed most of the same songs and also got to hear "Tiki Bar is Open" and one of our favorites that we heard in Frisco 2007 "If I Had a Boat". The audience was calling for "Old Days" but John said there was no way he could remember all those words.

Thanks for posting this! I see my local tix go on sale tomorrow.

I saw them with Guy Clark and Joe Ely a few years back, and thoroughly enjoyed it... it was such a cool night of stories and music. I'll definitely be trying for tickets!

Hi Jenny and Scott. Thanx for the Las Vegas review. We actually won't get our tickets till mañana. We will be celebrating Wayne's trip around the sun. Since Tiki is coming maybe we should have a mini tailgate at McGuire's?

We were actually thinking about Hopjack's. It's a cool bar just a few doors down that has really good food and LOTS of beer taps (100'ish). It's a great place that we think you'll love! We'll talk more about it when we meet you at Whale's Tail in the next few weeks / early March... more to come! :P

If you want to get tix tonight, the presale code is GUITAR. Since regular tix go on sale tomorrow, we don't think it's too bad to share the presale code tonight.

Thank you for the presale code. Worked like a charm. We'll see you at the Tail soon. Hopjack's sounds like fun. We'll get Buffett week started off right!

I enjoyed your gumbo and met Mr Utley in Tampa last year too, which I'm surprised I remember seeing as how most of the details of that afternoon are wiped out forever!

But thanks again for the heads up about this show. I managed to get 5th row on the aisle tickets today, and if I hadn't seen this thread, I probably wouldn't have known about it. Much obliged! :D

It will be a night to remember, I promise. Lyle is so droll and has such a quick wit ... John's just laugh out loud funny sometimes .... their bit about Bonnie Raitt is hysterical.

Have a most excellent time.

Should I ask for a set list or just be surprised? I think I want to be surprised.

This show was as awesome as advertised. We had us a time! Pre show fun began at Landshark Landing on P'cola Beach. When we sat down with beverages in hand, the Blue Angels did a 100ft. flyby on the beach. That was an omen! Then the Jayhawks clinched a Final Four appearance. Dinner at Hopjack's Tap Room with Scott and Jenny and friends. Then into the beautiful Saenger Theater. John and Lyle swapped songs, stories and jokes. John performed Blue Telescope, Memphis in the Meantime, Smashing a Perfectly Good Guitar, Riding' with the King ( Gibson 345 version ) plus many others. Lyle did many favorites including If I Had a Boat. Thank you Cathi for my wonderful birthday!

What an awesome show in an intimate venue!! Had a great time with Wayne, Cathi, and phriends. Sorry the pizza oven broke at Hopjacks. :( Girls stepped it up big time on the birthdays... boys are under pressure now.

On the way home from the venue, we saw two tour buses parked behind the Saenger and stopped to check it out. Ten minutes later, we were talking with Lyle Lovett, shaking hands, and getting pictures! What an incredibly gracious man to take the time to meet everyone at the end of his show. Can't wait to see them again!
