For those of you outside of the Philadelphia area you missed a classic this morning

PHILADELPHIA - Takeru Kobayashi, often called the greatest competitive eater of all time, set a new record Friday at Wing Bowl 20, the annual chicken wing-eating contest in this city.

In his first year of competition, Kobayashi downed 337 wings, smashing the record set by his closest competitor, Jonathan "Super" Squibb, in 2011.

Get your tickets early for next years event. They sold out and had over 20,000 mostly drunk, mostly men in the hockey arena this am.

I don't know which is more disturbing:

a) That this is actually an 'event'
b) He ate 337 wings, or
c) 20,000 people went to watch.

How do you judge an eaten chicken wing? It's not like a hot dog, where it's eaten or it's not. There's always going to be some scraps left on the wing. What if the second place guy ate more off of each wing? If he ate 337, they were counting the total number of wings, not volume. These questions keep me up at night.

Please tell me they're not eating the bones, too

Oh, they have judges that inspect the wing bones to make sure they are clean after eatin' and to add to the disturbing list...

4. That 125 "women" (mostly strippers) competed for the title of Miss Wingette. Yes, I believe bonus points were given for scarcity of costume and possibly "special talents" displayed.

Ms. Kobayashi is the person I don't want to see in front of me at the Chinese buffet.

I remember when WIP radio started this. The first few years were a few fat guys who ate like 50 wings. Shocking how big this has become. Funny...

Anyone remember an early winner for a year or two? "El Wingador"...lol

Maybe he altered the rules of the game; like he reduced the wing size.
