I used to make my own mayonnaise every week. So did my mama. And her mama, too. We used Helen Corbitt's recipes ... and we always had a bottle of poppy seed dressing (Corbitt's recipe, of course) in the fridge.springparrot wrote: and who makes their own mayo???

I cannot think of a situation where I would chop an onion or bell pepper in a machine. No. Can't do it. I didn't get that gene.

I'd be glad to make the caviar if I weren't flying. I love it. I'm sure we'll have plenty of goodies, though.
Not sure what making your own mayo has to do with that (maybe I missed something); I've never made my own but I love to enhance the storebought with little things.
NOW I know what "Virginia" thing I'll bring!!

Just finished the meatloaf without onions ... or bell peppers ... used onion powder and dang, it's really good. Nice texture, too.
@Molly. Helen Corbitt was the woman who created the Zodiac Room for Stanley Marcus. My mother worked for Mr. Stanley, so lunching at Neiman's was the best thing in the world for a little girl.
I have all of Miss Corbitt's cookbooks. They are my go to recipes. I think I put the Poppy Seed Dressing in the PHruitcakes cookbook.

Okay. I'm done for the day. Only 4 more to go tomorrow.
Nap time.

That sounds like fun. But not growing up in the Dallas area, I never went to N-M to eat or shop.East Texas Parrothead wrote:Just finished the meatloaf without onions ... or bell peppers ... used onion powder and dang, it's really good. Nice texture, too.

Re: Who's Doing Dallas 04/19/12 new info in 1st post
We have been to the FFF many times, but never the Dallas Hoot Island experience. Anyone have any info that might help us do it right the first time? Is the lot regular paid parking or is it VIP parking (we bought VIP parking when we bought our tickets online)? When do folks normally start showing up (days before or sometime on Thursday)? I'm thinking about bring my guitar again this year and playing a few Jimmy tunes; wondering if that is a good idea or not?
Any other info is appreciated. Looking forward to another great year!

The island is out in the general parking area, so no VIP required. Feel free to park where you've purchased, then swim on over for a visit. (or park near us, map in first post).springparrot wrote:I suggest you read the first post and then the rest of the thread....OK, SCAN the rest of the thread.run_ride_hide wrote:....Any other info is appreciated. Parking cost for standard is included in the tickets, tho I'm not 100% they won't charge something day-of. We do not have the option of pre-paid parking like at the FFF, so spaces are first-come-first-served.
It's all BYO this year, think we'll have a couple grills.
We will have our own private port-a-loos, which as the first post mentions we're getting donations for usage.
As for arrival time, we will have a few people there on Wednesday, early to grab our spot. Otherwise the lot opens on Thursday at 8:am ....tho arrivals will happen throughout the day.
Frisco Feeding Frenzies I-V (+16 other shows)
