In doing so, for decades, his wealth, that we created through our loyalty, permitted him to own hotels, casinos, gigantic yachts, one of the largest private fleet of planes in the world, Manhattan pent houses, St. Barth's villas and many - many other luxuries. What Jimmy Buffett owes his fans is atleast a little communication. It would take him or someone from his management team 8 seconds to put up a message on margaritaville.com that states - Yes, I am touring - be patient. Or, no summer tour this year - check back in the early fall. Other major touring bands have had their schedule out for over 3 months now. Unlike many huge profit concert acts, Jimmy set the precedent for his fans expectations regarding his tours and he knows that. The lack of communication is telling. I am through waiting. Plans for June have been made. But the bands who had the respect to put their tour schedules out months ago already have my money and I was happy to give it to them.
Ditto.

Maybe he thinks we'll buy his tickets WHENEVER he announces his shows.
Maybe he's right.

Maybe that's wrong...

He mentioned on the Orlando pre-concert interview that they were planning for "next summer" and the only detail he gave was it's going to be "cool". Now whether next summer means 2012 or 2013 who knows...

I agree with some of the other post. I wish Jimmy would put out some more tour dates, so at least, we would know if he is going to put on some concerts this summer. Like most of us parrot heads. We plan mini vacations around his concerts. I hate to buy tickets for some other concert and not for Buffett, ( like Lady GAGA. ) LOL. That is never going to happen. I need to keep a positive attitude. Fins Up.

Maybe there's a good reason for the lack of announcements. And maybe not.

But how'd you like to be the band... Or the CREW.... I sure hope they know more than we do but from the Margarillas posts it sounds like they don't. It's our vacations and leisure time we're trying to plan. They're trying to plan their professional lives and pay their bills (especially the crew).

I was thinking about that today Jen. The band supposedly isn't allowed to play out on the concert weekends anymore and if they can't go out and book gigs because they have to wait for Jimmy's tour dates that seems so unfair, I'm sure Jimmy pays them well but they do have their separate music careers and followings. In fact, if Peter and Mac would play somewhere in New England I'd be just as happy just seeing them.

Ummm, no, actually, especially when it comes to the crew, they don't....

I don't think JB's being cagey, or being an ass about this schedule announcement thing. Whatever else he may or may not be, JB is a businessman, and he understands that without the ability for fans to plan ahead at least a little, there will be fewer butts in seats. So I'm thinking there is a reason (or reasons) behind this. Maybe he's trying to gear the shows to local crowds (not many of us can take off and fly places on less than a month's notice). Maybe it's a personal or health issue. He still seems like he's having fun, so I don't think that's it. But I'm pretty convinced that for business reasons if nothing else, there's some explanation. We'll almost certainly never hear it (because it's none of our business), but it exists, because JB is too smart to essentially say "F-you" to the people who are going to make him lots of money in his restaurants, hotels and casinos long after the "Big Tour" is over. Just my opinion; your mileage may vary...

Technically he is touring now. The usual summer cities just haven't got there dates yet!!

Last year,
the Bristow, Virginia Jiffy Lube Live "no tailgating" fiasco
and Hurricane Irene
caused me to break
a consecutive year streak of seeing Jimmy in concert
that dated back to 1978 .....

After 90+ shows over the years,
I somehow feel free now ....

Part of me is thinking "I've seen him from the front row on St Barts and live on Duval St - how is it going to ever be better?"
If our tailgating group finds a way to get together anyway then I'm OK with that.

if he picks you up by limo , you get to hang with him before the show, and watch it from side stage??

or

picks you up by his private plane , and takes you to say Tahiti for a show , and you get to hang with him the whole trip

In the past 35 years or so .....
I've bought Jimmy's music
on 8-tracks, vinyl and CDs .....
I've seen 90+ concerts
many from the front row
many from the lawn
and every seat in between .....
I met him once on Duval Street in the 1980s,
we had brief chat and went our separate ways
those were the days when he could still
just walk the streets of Key West ....
I chatted with him again for 20 minutes or so
a few years later
while waiting for a book signing to get started .....

He's autographed books,
8-tracks, album covers,
and a Margaritaville Cafe menu for me .....
He gave my wife a guitar pick at a show
He once bought me a beer at a show .....
I've been backstage preshow a couple of times ....

and last year Jiffy Lube
screwed up my streak of consecutive years
of going to at least one Jimmy Buffett concert ....

Like I said .... I feel strangely liberated and free now.
No worries about future shows and ticket sales dates.
I'm focusing on other travels and shows
and if Jimmy announces a show in my area,
I'll consider going
but if he doesn't ... no worries mon .....
