So true, Jen! I don't want to dampen the spirits of anyone who IS going, but it's just never going to be like it was. Like you, I think I'll stick to my many good memories of shows past at Nissan, and I'll concentrate on making new memories elsewhere.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:The title of this thread might oughtta be "Who's NOT going to Bristow?"Carolinadreamin' wrote:I believe that discussion is happening in a lot of clubs this year. Well.... I'll probably be there. I can't really justify traveling elsewhere for a show, so this is the only option I'll give myself.

Just wondering...is Virgina Beach a better venue? My cousin just moved down there and I would consider crashing with her if it's a good tailgate and show there.FunkHouse9 wrote:Well.... I've never been to a show down there so I couldn't tell you. Much better town than Bristow for sure though.lime rickie wrote:Just wondering...is Virgina Beach a better venue? I just read the tailgating link---I feel like I'm back in Catholic grade school! ha!
Are other venues as restrictive? Maybe save up and head to Vegas instead.

I second that. We will not be returning this year either. I see that last years debacle was all about the dollar and it looks like this year they are trying to pacify us , but are making it hard to tailgate they will not see my money.Hockey Mon wrote:Sigh. I miss the good old tailgating days...

Didn't they always have rules in the past and chose not to enforce them, like drinking in public? It also says parking lot opening times may vary based on the show.

You are correct. They always had rules that never really were enforced. There are new peeps in charge, now, though. New rules, and they are definitely being enforced at JLL.phrankbama wrote:Didn't they always have rules in the past and chose not to enforce them, like drinking in public? Just curious, how do you know they will be enforced? Will you not be able to drink beer even if it is poured in a cup?phjrsaunt wrote:You are correct. Re: Who's going to Bristow, VA September 1?
Well last year, we thought they were just kidding when they said "no tailgating". But tickets showed up for the first time with "no tailgating" on them. The gates opened late. They had tons of cops and security people ready to pounce throughout the lots. People were forced out of their cars and moved through the gates to the side areas.....where there was plenty of booze and food you could purchase.phrankbama wrote:Just curious, how do you know they will be enforced? Maybe it will better......maybe the lots will be different. I have thought of all the people racing into the lots trying to get to "the grove" for the shade. I don't see how folks could tailgate for 6 or 8 hours in unrelenting heat on a semi-paved lot. There are folks who are thinking of going to the PWC fairgrounds to tailgate. Some have thought about tailgating at their hotel.
Well see how this year pans out before we invest any time, effort or money. I hope that everyone who goes has a great time and we'll see about 2013.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

We did VA Beach last year and it was great. We parked in VIP parking and had a tent and 2 large grills. No issues with police or event staff. Overall, it was a great show. We have gone to Bristow the last 5 years and will probably not go back. Praying for JB to announce a VB date!

I'm waiting to see what happens. If I can get a decent ticket up close to the stage, I may go. Probably be the last time I see him live.

Re: Who's going to Bristow, VA September 1?
Really running out of options for this year so it looks like I might be back at Bristow even though I swore I would never go back (this was 5 years ago before it apparently got really bad). My buddy can't do Camden this year so I guess I'm stuck with this. It kills me that Jimmy won't come back to Merriweather. I still have memories of some great shows there (over a decade ago). I can't believe I'm even considering Jiffy Lube. Come on Jimmy, screw these guys and give us some options.
