New Set List Unveiled in Tampa

A new set list was unveiled last night in Tampa at 1-800-ask-gary. The show opened with "One Particular Harbour," a very strange choice, in my opinion, for an opening song. So if you're in line buying a margarita, you've just missed "One Particular Harbour." I also like the idea of beginning a show with a song that isn't usually played. What was good about the choice was it was unexpected, really caught me off guard, and it gets everybody up singing and stomping. I'm wondering now if "OPH" will be the opening song for the new tour.

They played four songs from Coconut Telegraph: "Coconut Telegraph," "Growing Older But Not Up," "It's My Job," and "The Weather Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful." I've been missing songs from this album on recent tours. For me, then, this is a welcome addition. I expect to see in the near future a live version of Coconut Telegraph uploaded to iTunes.

I predict that "Knee Deep" will become a permanent fixture of the set list, as "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" has done, since it's a hit in which JB played a part.

"Swingin' Hula Girl," featuring JB on ukulele, was played and it really knocked me out.

They resurrected "No Plane on Sunday" from Floridays, and JB changed the lyrics to reflect recent events in the airline industry. I enjoyed listening to the song on RM, though I'm not sure it's a great concert song. What I like about it is JB taking chances and breaking out some unusual songs.

Ilo Ferreira did not open for the band, which makes me assume that he will not be opening on the new tour.

They played 25 songs, which is down from the 27-28 that they usually play, a function, perhaps, of a lead singer who (How do I say this? Oh, yeah,) has taken many a trip around the sun.

Out of the 25 songs they played, at least 5 were covers: "Swingin' Hula Girl," "Hey Good Lookin'," "Southern Cross," "Uncle John's Band," and "Brown Eyed Girl." That means that 20% of the show was covers. If you consider "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and "Knee Deep" covers, the percentage goes up from there.

Great show! Great set list! "Coconut Telegraph," "No Plane on Sunday," "It's My Job," closing with "Nautical Wheelers," for me it doesn't get any better than that. It was clear to me that JB had a blast performing in Tampa. He loves performing. He is probably addicted to it. And, in my opinion, there's absolutely no chance that he's going to stop performing any time soon. Get out there and enjoy the new tour. The set list is great.

Great review of the songs on the setlist!

I do remember when Jimmy opened the shows out on the lawn back in the 90s, he started the show on stage with One Particular Harbour. Good stuff!

It would be nice if Jimmy had a song Lounging at the Lagoon. :wench:

i was surprised to see he dropped Creola ....which Nadirah was doing as a tribute to Ralph.

Set list was very good ...... and Knee Deep is a cover , it's not on any of his albums, as is 5 o'clock, it's a Alan Jackson Song.

some of the show was a lot of the same, but, mixed up a bit. Wating to see what surprises he has for the New Tour.

When he did "The Weather is Here", did it include the pre-song byplay with the Reefers — "Where's my per diem?" / "Jimmy, can I open the show at ..........?" — and Jimmy's cautionary reminder of "WARNING!!! DON'T EVER START A BAND!!!"?

Maybe he does, and it just isn't polished up enough for public performance yet.

I think the reason Jimmy's set seemed short last night was because he flew to New Orleans right after the show and was spotted at the D.B.A. club playing a few songs.

As this was the second Tampa WTF show on the current tour, these changes were probably just for this one show. The current tour started in Tampa in April 2011, So Jimmy likely decided not to repeat the April 2011 set list.

In my imagination, the "tone" of a song called "Lounging at the Lagoon" would be similar to that of "Altered Boy." [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

I think of Lounging at the Lagoon more like Bama Breeze or Knee Deep.

It was a nice change for a set list, but I dont think this was part of the WTF tour. There was no reference to WTF during the entire show. Mater of fact, I don't think the words Fin Land were ever uttered. The back drop behind the stage said "Spring Break 2012". Jimmy stated during the show it was a two stop tour. There were t-shirts on sale that listed Tampa as a "Spring Break 2012" date. So IMHO, we were treated to the first leg of a mini-tour.

We might hear JB do Lionel Richie's "All Night Long," when the new tour starts.

Would love it. Of all the LR tunes that is actually a very good fit for Jimmy.
