well, i don't have an official "parrothead" license, but i do have a few jimmy buffet/margaritaville t-shirts, and about 30 pairs of flip-flops. and i probably don't qualify yet because, even though my wife and i spend almost every vacation at a beach, i still spend 65 hours a week for the last 23 years cooped up in a factory.
again, this is the only site that i am blogging on, and you are right that my ex-coworkers are on other sites.
there are no "guts" in beef trimmings, it is only the trim left over when you hand trim a primal cut like sirloin, round, ribeyes, etc..and LBT only made up 20% or less of ground beef. there is no "tainted" meat in LBT. i haven't made anything up, i found out about oliver while googling pink slime.
don't mix bleach with ammonia, the chlorine gas produced is deadly. and don't eat a roll of mentos and drink a coke as fast you can....

Well spoken Clay.
You are not likely to change msu's mind about this but I hope that doesn't stop you from sticking around and being a regular contributor.

So Ammonia isnt dangerous or poison???? How about you combine it with bleach and breathe it in for awhile then tell us what happens.
Neither comment is necessary. And you don't know this person any more than he knows you.

+1, clay.

For that matter, msu,
• some olives are fermented and cured using lye or brine
• acetic acid is a necessary part of making pickles
• and if it weren't for carbon dioxide, we wouldn't be able to enjoy soda pop, beer, or swiss cheese
Yet all of the above items — lye, brine, acetic acid, and carbon dioxide — are also toxic if taken separately in sufficient quantities.

Having worked in the cattle game, here in Oz (including a stint on the grates at an abattoir) I did no want to weigh in on this topic, but what the hey...

First up, I thought it was a bit rude of ClayP to start off with a SPAM, but since he/she has at least come back to defend the posted position, in a respectful manner I might add, and given this is the off topic arena and this is pretty off topic, then all I have to say is Welcome.

Second up, (Is that a correct thing to say?) the assertion that ClayP is not a parrothead is interesting. What makes one a parrothead?

To be honest, most of the parrotheads I know and have bent an elbow with like nothing more than to "argue the toss" over the topic du jour. I guess part of trying to live a free and unencumbered life is occasionally having to justify or defend your beliefs (whatever they might be).

Another part of being a parrothead is being friendly to others and leaving your hang ups about others at the bar door.

And what about treating others with a bit of respect and "playing nice" in the sandbox?

Owning a few albums, buying merch and going to a few gigs really ain't the point of being a parrothead for me. In fact try living on a small island with a bad attitude to others and see how far you get :)

Well I reckon that on the surface, ClayP meets these criteria fairly well.

I will let others be the judge about whether msu#1 meets the criteria of being a parrothead because I don't want to be the one knocking over the empty glasses and stacks of finger food plates in our little virtual tailgate here...

I *suppose* if it were to get *technical*, "Parrothead" would be "member in good standing of a PHIP-sanctioned Parrothead club," according to some Aloha shirt-clad attorney deep in the sandy bowels of the Margaritaville machine. Which I'd guess a lot of BNers aren't, though I know some are. But do we really *have* to get technical about it? :) If someone's going to actually show up, hang out, maybe do something worthwhile for a good cause, and enjoy some portion of the "lifestyle," I'm not going to look too closely at their credentials.

And on the Internet, nobody knows if you're a dog. So even if someone *claimed* to be a club member, listen to the music, etc., we'd have no way of knowing whether they were telling the truth or not. Just sayin'.

Also, this *is* the "off topic" forum, so I'd say a discussion of whether or not someone's meat is tainted fits right in. It "tain't" a post about Buffett, but it doesn't *have* to be.

That said, I *did* see a political cartoon on this particular subject this morning that *I* thought was clever - "We don't call it 'pink slime;' we call it 'SOYLENT PINK!'"

Yours wishing for a festive Friday and fun weekend,

Thanks for the welcome. Since this was my first post on any site ever, i had no idea how to start, so that's what i wound up with. :o My intention was to find out what people thought of the ps issue, and what we (my co-workers and I), could do to get some facts out there. In my mind, the producers will have to market to the consumer now, but I'm not sure they ever will....

The whole pink slime thing amuses me. My initial response was hmmm...amonia, I'm not so sure I like that mixed with my meat. Then I thought about the meat industry. The animals are popped with steroids, they are also overpumped with antibiotics. In addition they are fed engineered foods. I don't worry too much about this now that I have thought about it. People with agendas come up with all kind of stories, unfortunately we have a press desperate for a sexy headline and they don't worry much about the substance. Remember back in the 70's when we were facing a new ice age? Or how about when bacon caused cancer. We still go through the cell phones cause brain cancer stories without evidence.
