Nothing official about an appearance by Jimmy yet, but we would like to take a weekend trip to Biloxi for the opening of the new Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant. We haven't been back since Katrina. Time to go pay our Mississippi taxes. Any one else headed over that weekend?

Is there a hotel?

I thought just a Casino and Restaurant complex.

I think the IP Resort and Casino may be the closest rooms? Not sure.

Or is Margaritaville Biloxi closer to Boomtown?

Actually there is no hotel on site. The location is on the Back Bay, but just barely. It is located on the east end of 5th Street in Biloxi, very close to the bridge that connects Biloxi to Ocean Springs. The construction site is visible on Google Maps. The two closest hotels are the Biloxi Grand Casino & Hotel and the Ilse Casino & Hotel. The IP is located further west closer to the I-110 spur to Hyw. 90. Checking rates now. The Ilse is offering $78 for a standard king for the 20th and 21st.

Well, thanks! Then it is closer to The Palace. Nice Hotel and Casino and Resort....smoke free and has a marina. OK.

I thought I saw it going in down by those other casinos.

Did you see that Isle of Capri sold to Golden Nugget, which is owned by Landry's?

http://www.chron.com/business/article/L ... 382611.php

Buying a hotel and casino at a bargain price is a good bet, Tilman Fertitta believes.

He announced Monday he is acquiring the 720-room Isle Casino Hotel in Biloxi, Miss., for about $45 million, and will make it his fourth Golden Nugget Casino.

"We've been looking at Biloxi for years and want to be a major player in the South," said Fertitta, chairman and CEO of Houston-based Landry's.

Pending regulatory approval, he said he will sink $150 million into renovating the Isle Casino property. The Biloxi Golden Nugget will have updated rooms, a Chart House restaurant, Lillie's Asian Cuisine, Grotto and Morton's Steakhouse, as well as an H20 Resort Pool and Lounge with hot tubs and fire pits. It will reopen next year as the Golden Nugget.

If you will note the blue roof building on the far right side near the top of the photo, that is the new Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant. Looks like a quick drive off of Hyw. 90.

After re-reading the BN headline, they state the opening date as "the week of May 20th". I guess I should have been wearing my readers. We are going to wait until the actual opening date is announced.

Looking at that photo, doesn't look like much around, like another hotel within walking distance.

There are shuttles (free) from all the casino's that can take you to Margaritaville.
