Someone recently posted that Jimmy is retiring after this tour...Am I a gullible fool or is this true?
(They mentioned something about an announcement on Radio Margaritaville).

There were no earthquakes reported so I am sure that is not true. Also I think that he would do a farewell, thanks for the memories, and all the money tour.

That was out and out BS meant to stir the pot. The fine print from the post is reprinted in bold below.

I am so sick of this topic! As far as I can tell, Jimmy has no intentions of retiring. It's clear that he still loves performing. Look at it this way: Retire from what? Playing a manageable number of dates each year? Doing what he loves? As Bobby Bowden used to say, once you retire, there's only one more big event in your life. I think Jimmy will keep doing this as long as he's able. Enough already!

Sick of it

If you go through this forum and look at the posts around this time each year for the past 5 (at least) you will find similiar "is Jimmy retiring" threads. Nothing to worry about. He'll keep touring as long as he sells out and has sponsors. Geritol, Depends and Medicare may be the sponsors but he'll be out there.

If you read Jim Mayers blog, he wrote that Jimmy is giving the band songs to learn for next years tour, so they can rehearse them on their own and be ready when the band gets together to prepare for next years tour.....to me, that sounds like he'll be back next year.

Unless JB gets sick...I see a two year cycle. First an announcement that "after next year" the 40 year summer job" is coming to an end. That gives him the current and next year to sell big. I see a number of years after that of special scaled down, small, high ticket $ venues. To me that sounds like the biggest bang for his buck but then again...who knows...we are all the last people to tell Jimmy how to make a buck

Geez - take a pill. A lot of people missed the small print below that post. This person is new so maybe doesn't know that we go through this every year. Give him a break.
And Blackbeard -
Welcome to BN!

Maybe Jimmy won't get to pick when he retires - well ahead of time.
Maybe "stuff" happens to all of us that drastically change our lives going forward.
Maybe there's absolutely nothing to be gained on speculating when Jimmy will "retire".
(P.S. Maybe Jimmy could retire tomorrow and live quite nicely on his passive income without working another day in his life.)
Maybe we should ALL just live one day at a time and maximize our current enjoyment rather than even try to plan (or speculate on) the future.
Someday I Will...

I want to retire before Jimmy... I plan to follow him around on tour.

I never take anything for granted. I'm thankful to see Jimmy every year, and realize that one year will be the last.
I don't try to predict or anticipate when that will be. Just enjoy the "now" and don't miss anything.

(Same philosophy I use in my own life.)
