I've had my HTC Incredible II for over a year now and absolutely love it. Marilyn has the same phone and neither of us have had any issues.
OTOH, a friend of mine showed me his new Windows phone, and it is pretty sweet. Shane works for AT&T and has had I-phones, Droids and says the Window phone is the best one he's had yet.
Might be worth looking into...

Droid Razr Maxx.
Best battery on the planet.

NEVER .... worry about
lowering screen brightness,
or volume,
or limiting the amount of streaming,
web browsing

just to save battery.
You never need to. The battery is awesome.

Plus Verizon 4G LTE.

Disclaimer: I have an unlimited data plan
and I work for Verizon. I have streamed
6 straight hours of Netflix movies
and barely made a dent in the battery life.

I am also partial to Android phones and OS vs. Apple iStuff.

But .....

if you want lots of choice for accessories
(cases in lots of color choices, blah, blah, yada, yada)
go with Apple iStuff.

Hi Dave

I got the Droid Razor Maxx about a month ago and really do love it. The 4G is awesome! I love being able to stream RM from it while still surfing the net.

SP is right about the battery. It is fantastic.

It has though, locked up on me a few times while using the video cam. This is quite frustrating, and no one can seem to tell me why...This is the only complaint I have.

Not sure who your carrier is but we have Verizon, and I am now hearing that unlimited data plans are going away this summer. I pay $29.99 for unlimited data and am very concerned about where Verizon is going with its pricing... I locked in for 2 years, but Mrs RIPH has an upgrade coming in July. She has the $29.99 unlimited data too. Streaming RM takes up GB's, and Verizon wants to increase its revenue stream.....So, not sure where that upgrade will take us.

When ya heading down here to visit again?

I figure get her locked in for 2 more years of unlimited data before they change it...

I have a Droid X with the Unlimited Data Pkg and I'm thinking about going to a Razr Maxx too. I called Verizon and talked with them, my thinking (like everyone else) was that I'd upgrade and get locked in before any changes in the Data Plans. The Verizon rep told me that I'm locked into having a phone for 2 years, but the various shopping list items within the plan can change at any time. They could change the data plan to $100 (or $1,000) at any time and my only option would be to cancel that part of my service. I'd still need to keep basic service to fulfill my 2 year commitment. He said the onus is on Verizon to keep things affordable so that everyone doesn't move to just basic service. I'm going to call again today and see if I get the same explanatin from another rep.

I was informed that the change from unlimited to a (family data plan) would only take effect on new or upgrades after July 1 and that any existing unlimited would be set until they upgraded.

My only problem with the Droid X's is they are HUGE! I've seen tablets that are smaller!

Just for grins, I called to see about an early upgrade on our July phone, and was told that Verizon is not allowing early upgrades. The rep did say though, that my plan for my Razor Maxx, will not be changed until the 2 years are through, no matter what Verizon does to their data plan pricing. When I upgrade in July though, I will be subject to plans offered by Verizon at that point in time. He also said that 3G phones might be differently priced for data than 4G phones, so who knows.

Let us know if you get a different version, SPH.

Mrs RIPH has the Droid X too.

The screen resolution on the Razor Maxx is much better though.

I have a Droid X and I've loved it. I kind of wish an X3 would come out so I could see if the specs can match the Razr Maxx. I've also heard good things about the Incredible II, but it's an older phone (by phone standards), so you might see what the next gen looks like. We're eligible for an upgrade now, but aren't quite sure what we want to do for new phones yet.

We're also looking at switching from Verizon (sorry Bob) to Sprint, which means I'd probably go Galaxy Nexus or EVO 4G.

BB, why are you thinking of leaving Verizon? Is it the costs?

No...it's the service. Every time I have to call or go in a store I end up talking to an idiot.

My last call was to the usual Verizon customer service number... Boeing employees get a discount on Verizon so I just called the Boeing Verizon rep. He told me that the unlimited data plan wouldn't change until the end of my 2 year commitment. I upgraded to a new Maxx and restarted the clock so I'm good for another 2 years. Even better, there's a $20 promotional rate for the unlimited data pkg rate right now and so I've got it for $20/mo for the next two years!

The camera IS amazing. My friend's HTC camera is *FAR* superior to my iPhone 4 camera. (In fact, I'm QUITE disappointed with my iPhone camera, although in general I like the phone).

Keep calling. I am also a Verizon Wireless CSR, and should you end up talking with me I certainly hope that I can prove that there's one phone rep who's not an idiot.....

Although (unfortunately) you are partly correct. There are some reps out there, mostly in the stores, that shouldn't be dealing with anything more technical than two tin cans on a string. I got eight weeks of training (five weeks of classroom education plus three weeks answering customers' calls with an instructor's supervision and assistance) before I was turned loose to deal with customers on my own — I'd hate to see what an in-store rep gets by comparison. And the training keeps coming; we had two hours of classroom training (a/k/a a 'huddle') last week to learn about our new global data and voice packages and how to set them up properly for those customers who wish to use their phones while traveling outside of the US.

As for the domestic data plans — nothing is definite yet. Remember the old saying about 'an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of typewriters'? Most of all the supposed "facts" are being put forward by bloggers and people who heard one remark about being migrated away from a grandfathered unlimited plan....that a lot of smartphone users do not have and have not been able to get since July 2011. It's mostly internet hysteria and hogwash.

And remember too that all features — texting packages, voice packages, data packages — that are currently on a customer's account become "grandfathered" should Verizon Wireless (VZW) ever stop offering them, such as happened with the unlimited data plan that was withdrawn last July. Those people who had the plan at that time were and are allowed to retain them, so long as they continue to keep a smartphone on the affected line throughout the life of their contract. The only way someone can currently lose a grandfathered feature is if they, the customer, initiate an action that causes the feature to fall off the line. VZW cannot, while you are in the middle of a contract (or even out of your contract), decide that they will unilaterally alter the feature and force you off of a grandfathered plan; however, should you give up the feature or otherwise alter the agreement by signing a new contract, VZW is within their rights to decline to reinstate a defunct plan. And that's what seems to be the gist of the announcement last week.

Also included in the 'announcement' was a reference to a 'shared-data' plan for multi-line accounts — a plan that would allow customers with multiple data-using devices to share a single allocation of data over the entire account similar to the way in which voice minutes are currently shared on family plans (and possibly save money) versus the current policy of mandating a $30.00 or higher data package per smartphone — which would supplement the current data plans, in response to VZW customers' input and desires for such an arrangement. How come nobody seems to be paying attention or making a lot of noise about that?
