Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
I'm thinking....This may have more to do with the venue than him. I have been told by a reliable source that some venues(at least in Charlotte and Raleigh) are fined if artists go over the set time that music is supposed to stop (usually in more suburban venues). Some thing like $10,000 for every minute. I'm sure they are passing this cost down to the artist if this is true.
Sure enough, in Charlotte the show shut down around 10:30 but we had 28 songs (no break and 5 songs in the first encore). I'm also thinking it may have something to do with whether or not a show is on a week night or weekend.
just guessing...

as long as we are complaining.....
the entire setlist this year sucks, imo. if it wasnt for the annual meeting of old friends at the tailgate i can honestly say i would not go to a single show this year.
i'm so burnt out on the sykbh songs, i cant stand it. really, the entire set this year is abysmal.
last night's encore really pushed me over the edge.
5 o'clock
BEG
fins

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
So after about a 7 year hiatus of following Jimmy, I returned to Aaron's f/k/a Lakewood last night almost 15 years after I was on stage for Stumpo el Bando (Havana Daydreaming '97). Things have certainly changed, and in my opinion they have gotten worse since I became disenchanted with Jimmy's business-like approach that clashed with 30+ years of song lyrics. Last night's second encore in particular was a disaster and really tough to watch. I'm with everyone else who says that they aren't fans of the mickey mouse encore, but at the same time, I'm glad he's still playing music for us.

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
just to clarify, i have no issues with the business side of jimmy. good for him to be able to turn himself into a business empire.
i just want a good setlist.

Interesting to see what at one time would have been considered dissent on the board. Seems like it wasn't all that long ago that that sort of thing could get you banned from here.

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
The opening show in Tampa a couple months back was awesome and one of the best I've been to.
One of the encores was BEG and we danced like crazy on the lawn.
He ended with a slow number but even if he didn't I gotta say..Who really gives a rat's ass?
I'm not a sheep but I'm also not a constant Debbie Downer and it seems pretty petty in the grand scheme of things.

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
I agree, the setlist the last couple of shows has been about 1/3 cover tunes. I have no problem with him milking the brand dry and building up his business empire, but he seems to be forgetting that what got him that business empire was his music. I don't go to a Jimmy Buffett concert to hear a Zac Brown song or an Alan Jackson song or a Van Morrison song or a Crosby, Stills and Nash song. I go to hear Jimmy Buffett songs. If he doesn't think enough of his own songs to play them at his shows, why should we care enough to keep going?BigR-KyParrothead wrote:i'm so burnt out on the sykbh songs, i cant stand it. really, the entire set this year is abysmal.

UNFORTUNATELY.....he's playing the songs he THINKS the masses want to hear. Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. Only the ticket takers know for sure. Thus....SYKBH + covers.LIPH wrote:I agree, the setlist the last couple of shows has been about 1/3 cover tunes. Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
I only go to a show maybe once a year so I guess that's why SYKBH or maybe a upbeat encore do not bother me. I'm just so happy to be there having a blast with friends and hearing some good tunes.

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
i was curious, so i took the atlanta set (27 songs) and cut it to the songs that i think are actually still enjoyable for me to hear/see jimmy perform.
this is what i came up with...
One Particular Harbor
Growing Older But Not Up
Knee Deep
Savannah Fare You Well
Pirate Looks At Forty
Who's The Blonde Stranger
Jolly Mon Sing
Bama Breeze
8 of 27
and the only reason i kept knee deep in that list is because zac brown joined jimmy on stage. it's my fav zbb song...but i don't like jimmy's version.
not a good total at all

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
It was very amuzing to watch yellow album fans freak out when he got to the end of the show and hadn't played Fins yet. Very amuzing to watch.
This set list is just about the same as the second half of the WTF tour. Seeing the first show of the tour this year was in NO WAY as exciting as Tampa in 2011 for the fist show of WTF.
I really wish he would branch out more.

And yes, the concert in Tampa in 2011 was one of the best set list shows I'd ever been to.
I think my favorite set list "album" is the one "Live From Anguilla."
I don't mind too much that he opens with "O.P.H.," but he's GOT to stop making FINS the closer. Sheesh!

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
Strange that it seems no one like these songs or they're not placed in the right order of the setlist. Everytime I've seen or heard Jimmy do BEG, Southern Cross, stuff from SYKBH etc. the crowd goes nuts. Why would Jimmy change when he sees this? I would personally feel ripped off if I travelled all the way to see a concert and he didn't play the big 8 songs. Hopefully I hear them all in Vegas. Also happy to hear him bring back "Who's The Blonde Stranger". Keep it up Jimmy!

Re: I Want Second Encores Back!
If one is just a casual fan or even a hardcore Parrothead who does not follow Jimmy
across the country multiple times a year, you'd probably be just fine with the encores.
Even if I went to every show I would not have a sense of entitlement. Sure I can wish for
a gem and have even heard a quite a few but it's never been a uber-huge deal either way.
I've only been to 12 shows but I've never left one p!ssed off at the encore selection or that he did not play my song.
In fact, I've left all but one on a natural high, and that one, I left early because of something unrelated to the show.
I believe Jimmy tries to please all fans, casual and hardcore and some will never be pleased.
Again, in my case, I'm just happy to be there for the whole event with friends of good tunes.
